I'm gonna say the two piece drive shaft. after a good neutral drop, I destroyed mine and put in a single piece one.

Besides the rust, the battery placement caused not just the tray, but the radiator support and the right front fender to get eaten out.
One more minor complaint - and this is the case with all cars of the period - no upholders. |

Alot of the complaints are common to many or most of the vehicles of the time.
Rust? You almost can't find Fords of the period of any kind. They've returned to the earth. Battery rot? More of a problem with the batteries of the day. Gas tank? Many/most trucks had the tank in the cab for many years, not just GM. I don't think it was really much of a safety problem either. So why is it stupid? I like everything about these trucks. Even the seat tank. There is something nostalgic about the sound of the gas sloshing around as you are traveling down a rough country road. As it turned out for GM that putting the tank out board of the frame rails in the 73 to 87s was an even worse idea. Did GM ever have any safety issues with the seat tanks?

On my 67 it would have to be the dimpiling required on the frame to convert to modern power steering & of course the small back window.

I too don't like the fact that more care was not done to prevent rust but considering the day when these trucks were produced, I think they did fine. I just wish technology was better and epoxy primer/EDP coatings had been produced earlier.

Can't say I really hate anything on the truck, but I certainly could use more space behind the bench so I can prop my arm up there. Easily rusty cab corners are a gripe of mine, too.
