Looking for speaker ideas

Hello all. Im looking for some ideas on putting a sound system in my 54. I dont want a modern radio. I want a stealth look with Bluetooth. No big bass or anything crasy. What did yall do? Thanks

Even if you have the tank behind the seat you should be able to hide some speakers in the corners behind the seat for rear speakers. Add a pair of smaller ones up behind the stock speaker grill and from there it all depends on how critical your ear is on the total sound of the music to drive by has to be.

in your position, I would get a pair of full range marine/boat speakers with mounting brackets, bolt on some studded magnets and stick them to the floor board under the seat or in the corners behind the seat.. run the speaker wires under the sill plate and tuck under whatever mat or carpet you have.. pad the magnets if paint finish is high quality under there or even hang them from seat frame with plumbers tape or small custom standoffs you could bend up..

I'm lucky to live near a small town.When I need work on my sound system,there is a one man shop town,I would suggest you go to local guy that know everything,and he will fix you up

He's not far from Mobile so the availability of auto sound stores shouldn't be an issue

Getting them to discretely hid the speakers might be a challenge though as some of those places seem to think the speakers need to be all too visible.

Like other people I have a pair of small speakers behind the stock speaker grill and a pair of 6x9's in the rear corners. I also mounted a small powered sub behind the seat, above the gas tank. https://www.amazon.com/11HS8-Hideawa...icker+hideaway and a cheap amp under the seat.

If you don't want a radio in the dash you can use a bluetooth receiver. This may not be the best one but it worked for me.

Then you can control it all from your phone. I did this a few years ago and there may be better options, I'm no audio expert.

I used the retro radio with the kicker powered amp hidden under my seat, sounds good.
I get people all the time asking "is that sound coming from that old radio"

I cant figure out how to put a picture on here but this is my ride. I would love to upgrade the front Suspension to give it a better ride. Rats like a tank now. Doesn’t take bumps very well. I don’t drive it over 55 just for that reason. I have seen that mustang to kid that can be welded on the stock frame. Is that the best way to go?

Out here on the beach moisture and rust are big factors. May i suggest you look at Marine/boat equipment. Usually smaller and somewhat more durable and weatherproof.

Blue tooth makes it so easy it's crazy! I am not there, a flip phone guy but I am damn sure thinking about it with my current truck build.

The first photo is where the stereo was in my truck 40 years ago, I made a holder for it behind the dash. I put hinges on the center dash grille mounting the mouldings to the grille. I removed the ash tray and welded the cover to the grille. You gained access to the radio by pulling on the ash tray handle to drop the grille down like a glove box door.

In my Gran Sport, 30 years ago, I made this under dash unit with a metal under dash stereo holder then made the "gauge panel" to cover it up, again with hinges on the bottom. I got three used SW gauges and cut them up so just the bezel and face were left. No one would have ever thought of breaking into my car to steal the stereo which was the biggest reason I did it, with a convertible you don't want to give anyone ANY ideas. So the dash had an AM radio in it, no problems.

But like I said, now with bluetooth you put it where ever you want, pretty neat.

Hiding auto stereos may be history. Some are so cheap they are not worth the effort. The Bluetooth option is really attractive and using a phone as a dash gps may be the way to go. Single and double din head units may be history soon as well

FWIW: Still laughing about two idiots who stole the 4 track out my 54 in 1969 and left a craftsman tool kit behind when surprised. Also left some blood and my only 4 track (Doors?) tape behind. Still have the tools and the truck.
