Thanks! Not an original color. It's PPG Victory Red used on newer GM cars and trucks.

Re: Let's see those slant noses. Calling all 67's & 68's, clips too.

Victory red, AKA fire red, AKA apple red, and probably other names has been around forever, decades. Ford and Dodge have also offered an almost identical shade of red under several names over the years, it's a standard fleet color for fire support vehicles and manufactures of components for those support vehicles have color matched pre-painted parts to that shade for years. I'm sure there was a way order a truck in that same color even back then. I had a neighbor growing up that used to prep trucks for a mining company, and used to switch between Dodge, Chevy and Fords, probably 6-10 trucks a year, and all of them arrived new with sticker still in the window, staight from the dealer the same red regardless of manufacture.

The town I grew up in had a volunteer fire department, the neighbor was a volunteer fireman, as was the local TV repair guy whos vans were also all that color (Chevy panels and then later Ford Econolines) and I saw these parked next to the towns firetrucks all the time all the same color, and all were that color from the factory. ...and I noticed these things because I was a kid facinated by the show "Emergency!", so red trucks were practically mythical to me at the time.

Not sure about all that. You really need codes and not go by names. It is true there were/are a handful of commercial fleet colors that have remained unchanged (still) over the years. But,some vary between manufacturer. Not sure about the fleet red, though.

Shawn, you must have 514 Red. There was no Red Orange in '68,only 514 Red and 516 Orange. Both colors remained through '72. In '69 513 Flame Red was added and remained through '72. That was darker. It wasn't till '70 that 524 Red Orange/Hugger Orange came out. I think it's 514 that was called Light Red (w/o checking)

Re: Let's see those slant noses. Calling all 67's & 68's, clips too.

I like Red with a touch of Orange. And sometimes a little fade'll do it. I had a '90 Blazer that was Flame Red or Torch Red (can't remember) and it had just the slightest touch of Orange. I may do my '67 that way...if I do Red. I think Light Red,that you have, looks like it has Orange in it...at times. Computers vary, but often people on this site think it's Hugger/Red Orange. It seems Red is a color that just looks Red till you put it against another Red. That's kinda how 514 and 513 are

I do know that I have decided to repaint it with the original red. Will have to put a 514 sample up against it to see. Funny thing is when I first bought the truck I kept saying I'll never paint it red I guess the black interior against the red paint really grew on me

Re: Let's see those slant noses. Calling all 67's & 68's, clips too.

imo the 514 light red that is faded a bit looks like the hugger orange
and as far as victory red there is at least two diferent wa codes for it

anyway back to topic
