1981 C30 with Holmes 440 42K

I picked this up on a surplus auction site. 81 C30. 350 4 speed, Power Steering, Hydro-boost brakes. 1971 model Holmes 440 with hydraulic winch.

City owned and maintained. Miles are right. Painted 10-15 years ago--garaged ever since. Been dragging my stuff around. Its awesome. Time warp. Taking back to dead stock .

Holler and I will take you for a ride!

They are very useful. Do you have more pictures? I got one that I'm fixing up. It's a 76 and also a hi-side.

When taking it back to stock you doing just the truck or the bed also? As it looks like when it was painted the rear lights were modified. Also the correct marker light is a double bullseye with a light guard.

any pics of the hydro winch setup ?

i have a holmes 480 split boom unit only with bed i drug home a few years ago .

here is a pic of my 480 rear pan were the lights are . it was off a 1969 c-60 napco 4x4 truck . i dont know if it was orignal to the truck or newer install .

I had one of those completely in the air trying to pull a mid 70's K20 out of a mudhole. The front end was chained to a tree and the Holmes 440 was pulling with all it had, if didn't stop when it went up in the air I'm sure it would have broke something, young and dumb back then..

@sweetk30 that is correct on how the rear lights are factory. You can even see the double bullseye marker light is still there.

this tow body and unit was super clean minus some normal rust areas . never even had a re-skin on the body .

here is a old pic of the truck it come off . the old napco 4x4 axles and t-case are now alive and still working great under this 82 c-60 with a twin line holmes and holmes wheel lift unit .

That is awesome. One popped up in the Houston area about as clean and they are asking $6k, not bad I thought but the banker said no.

Sold mine a few years back. I miss not having it, but insurance was beginning to kill me as the wonderful state of calif kinda banned tow trucks that were 'under rated' they started requiring medium duty trucks to be on rotation. I non-opped it for a few years and used it on my property pulling trees down.

It was 2wd when I got it. I converted it and just about rebuilt everything on the truck. Kept the 454 that had been recently replaced with a crate roller engine. Truck had some killer torque.
