Get the truck running & driving first, you will find that engine makes plenty of horsepower in stock form.

Conversions can have hidden cost you didnt plan for, just my 2 cents

I agree with that. theres a bunch of other stuff that can be done if your unhappy with the power level. i would start with having the computer programmed. obviously a free flowing exhaust remove the cats and get a good intake tube setup. i would bet at that point you will be pretty happy with the power output and wont get traction anyhow

Do a cam swap! Best bang for the buck period! You will need to upgrade the valves springs also. I run Z06 springs, they are rated to .585 lift and you can get a set for 50 bucks. Depending on cam choice a stall may also be required. I ran a Vincie High Performance cam #112 in the burb. It's a .551/.551 210/218 112LSA. The only tune change I had to make was to bump the idle up a touch. I did the cam swap at the same time I changed tire size from a 35x12.50r15 to a 38x15.50r16. Even with the much heavier tire, the truck still got faster.

Re: any cam for a 6.0 Vortec Max (LQ9) 2006 SS Silverado

Thanks to all the post replies, I've done lots of research on my swap and even that I already the complete motor and trans with haness, It is very expensive to complete the swap, Harness from Painless #60221 is $899.95 from summit, Pedal for the DBW with the harness around $100, reflash my PCM is free when I buy painless harness, Fuel lines with the return line setup pumps and regulators $300 or more if I changed the tank, !

Should I carb the 6.0 Vortec Max?
more horse power?
cammed it?
eeasier.............

dont carb it. run it with a throttle body. Just put a good 224/224 .581/.581 lift cam and new springs in it you can get a better custom grind cam but the 224 is a good off shelf cam. Patrick guerra on LS1tech can spec you a good one for 25 bucks. or just surf around on performancetrucks.net and look at peoples setups. Get a good tune from nelson performance in san antonio or black bear or Wheatley. Nelson can also do the harness for you custom to your application. you can even send them your stock (6.0)harness and they will rework it for you.

Do yourself a favor and scrap the Painless harness idea. Biggest waste of money ever! You can spend less than half that on a harness that's ready to go. Forget the carb idea too. That's the most expensive option there is. Do you have the stock harness?

Why is converting it to carb a bad idea? I've been kicking around the idea of going lq9 or ls1 but going carb. To me it seems like it would be easier then messing with computers. Just curious

Thanks for your advise, I do have the stock harness, I called Nelson Performance yesterday Tue.1/26 but no answer, I left a msg. but no one return my call.

I'd like to know how much he will charge me to do my harness or sell me one outright, also to re-flash my PCM. and last but not least ask the about a cam.

Yes, I will scrap the painless/carb idea.

will go all the way with the EFI V-Max.

Nelson's is not picking up or returning my calls.

I'll order my stuff from Nelson's since everyone on this forum has reffer me to them.

It sounded like he was trying to save money, and a carb swap will cost more than sticking with the EFI. As far as ease, it doesn't get much easier than getting the motor tuned once and never having to touch it again. Why would you want to toss the biggest advantage of doing the swap in the first place?

Gus- If you want to save even more, there isn't much to modding the stock harness yourself. All that's really done is adding a few power supply relays and removing a few plugs (for aesthetic purposes, so not required). I can get you the pin-outs if you want to give it a try.

Harness reworked and ecu tuned from wait4meperformance-$360 shipped. Only a couple wires to hook up.
That engine will make 400HP plus with the emission stuff removed and a tune. Trust me, I know. A friend of mine has one in a 85 C10.
The search function on this forum is great for info too.
