1969 C10 project

So I'm building a 4x4 shortbox right now (http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=728086) but I've decided to start another truck because two unfinished trucks is the smart thing to do!

So the story here is I bought this long box frame. Previous owner did a bit of work, lowered it and converted it to 5 bolt. I then found a short step side bed, and a rust free cab and front clip for a donor. And I really mean rust free, cab is pristine condition with original paint. Don't have any pics right now, but I'll get some.

Its going to be a Frankenstein truck. So cutting the frame to make it a short bed doesn't bother me. I went ahead and got the Brothers conversion kit and did that last weekend. Sure is super easy with just a rolling frame!

This is not going to be a show truck, just want a nice, clean looking, dependable truck to use as my daily driver in the summer months. Main plans for it so far:

- clean up frame and paint it
- rear mounted fuel tank
- 18" wheels
- 350 with 700r4. Going to be carbed, maybe down the road add fitech or something similar

Should be fun!

Re: 1969 C10 project

My dad and I spent all day Satutday wire wheeling the frame and prepping it for paint. Then yesterday put some paint down. Pretty happy with the result.

Re: 1969 C10 project

Engine and 700r4 dropped in yesterday. I have a driveshaft from another project that is no longer needed that is very close to fitting. Need a couple inches taken off. I'm hoping to get the cab on before it gets cold and snows up here...hopefully enough time for that yet.

Browsing Kijiji and found a smoking deal on this front end. CPP control arms are brand new!

Yeah it went fast. He said there was a long line of people wanting it so I had to go pick it up quick.

Yeah just in time. First time I ever ordered from them and they were top notch. It's unfortunate.

Got a few more things done on the truck. Pulled the pan on transmission to get my Bowler lockup kit for the 700r4 in. Front spindles are changed, so the 3.5/5 drop is now done. Also pulled the rear diff cover to take a look and change fluid and got a nice suprise: posi! Got my driveshaft back now too after getting it cut.

Now just need to button up a few things and will be dropping the cab on soon. Hoping to have it on the frame by the end of the month.

Re: 1969 C10 project

Looks great man! I presume you will be passing the exhaust through the frame? That's the first time I've ever seen it done this way. Based on the flanges inboard and outboard the frame, that will be a fixed point in the system. Do you have any other plans for the exhaust system to flex and expand from heat, like typical hangers?

That was a previous owner's work there. I won't be utilizing it and will be running inside the frame and out the back over the rear end.

Re: 1969 C10 project

Nearing the end on this. Bled the brakes and took a pic after washing it after. Things to do before taking it for a test run

1) Hook up throttle linkage
2) Finish wiring in the torque converter lock up
3) Need a couple fittings and to secure the trans cooler
4) Some wire clean up/tidying up under the hood

One thing I'm not particularly happy about is the rear wheels tuck in too much for my liking now that I can see how it looks with the bed on. I don't want to run spacers, need to think on it.

Re: 1969 C10 project

I'm going to throw a cover on this seat and put it in the truck. Hard to believe how well preserved this thing is. There was an old cover on it which is what saved it.

Re: 1969 C10 project

Been chipping away at little things here and there. I scored a completely re-done 72 rear end! 3.73, posi to boot! So going to swap that in and will solve my rear tire tuck problem.

Thanks! Plan is to drive the wheels off of it. No fancy paint job on this one so it will be used and enjoyed!

Swapped in the rear end, so this is the final look. Quite happy with how it all turned out!
