New to me Blazer

Well I went and picked up lvschevytrucks' 95 blazer today. He's a good buddy of mine and I was glad we could do business on it. It is a 1995 4dr 4wd Blazer with just over 160k on the body and trans. He swapped the engine because it had a knock that was thought to be a rod bearing or the like. When he pulled the old motor out and could get to the rear spark plugs he realized one of them was in pieces so that was really the problem. He put another known good engine in. Had the heads redone and all new gaskets put in. He was in the process of putting it back together and he came down ill and hasn't been able to finish it. So I bought it and I'm gonna finish it. Now that my wife and I have a second child, we need the room seriously. So the blazer is definitely a welcome addition to our truck family. And we will soon be selling the 'clown car' our 2002 ZX2 escort blah. Anyways here's some pics of it on the tow dolly ready to goto it's new home. Plans are to get it running, change the front end over to the 98 up year model front end, change the taillights, new radio(there isn't one), new tires and brakes, give it a good cleaning and then let my wife drive the wheels off of it.

black leather interior and fully loaded. The drivers seat needs to be repaired but I do auto upholstery for a living so that's easy.

some of the parts that still need to be installed

Re: New to me Blazer

Nice upgrade. I wondered if it would get back on the road.

Ditch the metal fan. Install an Explorer 4.0 plastic fan. It will cool it better and A/C will rock!!

Re: New to me Blazer

Gchemist, is that plastic fan electric or not? And will it fit in the factory fan shroud. I need to get a shroud and I figured I'd just upgrade to an electric while I was at it like 67chevyredneck did to his truck. What do you think? Also looks like I need a radiator unless Randy has one at his house I forgot. If I need to get a new one will the factory 1 row radiator work or is there an upgrade. Thanks fellas.

Re: New to me Blazer

in order to do the explorer fan you will need to change the water pump. yours takes the old style with 4 studs and the explorer has the threaded snout.

if you have any questions give me a shout. I have been under the hood of so many of these, it's scary.

Re: New to me Blazer

Well I got some stuff done today. Actually I was pretty darn productive. I got up this morning and took the wheels off and set the blazer down on blocks. Then went to Sam's and had them mount up some new Goodyear tires and got a new battery too. While I was on that side of town, I went by Randy's house and picked up the radiator. I'm glad he had it because it's almost $200 new. When I got home, it took everything and laid it out so I could see what I had. I hooked up most of the harness connectors and the coil. Also I put the wheels with the new tires back on. I also went and bought new pads and shoes, air filter, radiator cap, radiator flush, and some little odds and ends. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some more work done to it. I'm really having a hard time trying to figure out where one wire and one vacuum hose goes to. I'll post some pics tomorrow and maybe someone can help.

Re: New to me Blazer

So I took some pics of the stuff I'm having a hard time with.

First off is this vacuum line. It comes off of a sensor that is bolted to the drivers side of the intake manifold. You can see it extending up over the manifold. It's in the center of the pics.

You can se in this picture there's about a 10 or12 gauge with a ring terminal on the end that runs down the passenger side of the manifold and around the back of the manifold. I jet pulled it up so I could take a pic.
you can also see the end of the vacuum line in the previous pic

here you can see some brackets and braces and a harness. The last two pics are pics of each end of the harness. Thanks alot fellas.

Re: New to me Blazer

first pic;
thing with red connector is the evap purge solenoid. to the right is the purge flow sensor (black connector). fuel vapors flow from tank to charcoal canister, to purge flow sensor, to purge solenoid, to throttle body. IIRC it is on the bottom driver's side you will find a 7/32 metal nipple. as for there being 2 ports on the purge solenoid, it is important to have them correct. look at your diagram on the sticker (fan shroud) it will show the solenoid with a tab-like thing sticking out next to one of the lines. this tab is the wiring connector. place the correct line next to the wire connector.
the tube you have attached to the solenoid looks more like the one that goes from the air cleaner snorkle to the driver's side valve cover (fresh clean air for PCV system)

as for the 10 or 12 gauge wire; what color is the wire and where does it lead to? these trucks have a large red wire with a ring terminal that comes from the pos. battery across the engine behind the AC compressor, in front of the thermostat housing, and over to the alternator. it if is not red, let me know. I will PM you my # so you can call me at work and I will look up the wiring diagrams.

the brackets; my brain is starting to shut down. I best leave those alone for now.

Re: New to me Blazer

I called you before I read this. You can pm me when to call you and I'll call you tomorrow. Also the ring terminal is small like 1/8 to 3/16 inside diameter size. I didn't even think to check on the fan shroud for the emissions crap. There's one hose close the intake manifold and it is attached to the sensors to the right in the picture or near the rest of the motor. The sensors are only aBout an inch apart. There's a vacuum
line that comes from the drivers side. I think it's the vacuum canister that I hooked up right under he mouth of he throttle body. I looked at previous pictures from the motor and the drivers pcv valve goes to a hole in the air cleaner tube. There's a pcv valve in the pass valve Cher that goes to the throttle body or intake right where the throttle body mounts. Can't remember which one it hooks to right now

I can check on the wire color forctje ring terminal on the morning

Re: New to me Blazer

On my wife's truck, that hose was routed down and to the front of the engine.

Where it was connected to this nipple.

Re: New to me Blazer

The short harness I believe to be the Crank Position Sensor extension, source end shares the passenger side knock sensor wire and goes down the the CPS on the timing cover.
