Yup, the chrome bezel for the '67 is smaller than the '68-'72. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a '67 big window cab....

I have a Chevy brochure that specified the 327 engine being offered for the first time in 68 as an option for the 1/2 ton rather than the standard 307 v8 and confirmed by my 327 option 1/2 ton

Did you ever look into the partial frame number as matching the SPID and the VIN plate? What do the VIN plate rivets look like? Everything I'm seeing makes me think the truck is a 69 build. Can't really see someone adding an entire 69 front end and "all" the later exterior trim to a 68.
That rear bumper is/was actually a once common sliding step bumper popular on camper equipped trucks. It could be extended to the rear of the camper to offer a step and some protection.

Agree VIN matches on the frame and cab plate and the rivets are good. Since you say the title matches then it would appear to be a dressed out 68 cab and frame. We now know the frame/cab was a 68 V8 C20 pickup from the VIN. Was there a SPID posted I missed on this truck or is that the root of the whole problem?

Yeah no SPID... anyway to obtain that info? Would Chevy have a department for that stuff?

No once it is gone its gone for the most part. "Z" Fremont built trucks often had build sheets in them from which an accurate SPID could be reconstructed. With yours it would be very hard to determine much with any degree of accuracy. Even fleetside or stepside is up in the air. V8 is a given and auto or manual are pretty hard to erase. Big block is a lot harder to work out but possible. Trim options and colors often leave hints. But to say what your truck had exactly at this point is impossible from what I know.
If it were me I'd just go ahead and build it as a 69-70 Custom/20 and enjoy it. Bring the paint back to the cabs original base color and work out from there. The Custom door emblems are something I would pull off as they flag it as an earlier truck, but they indicate it was a Custom and not a CST if they are original to the cab.

Hopefully yall arent too annoyed with this post yet haha... I just found another label... It was made in November of 68.. Someone has told me that it's possible that it was an early released 69 possibly? Any thoughts? Is that a rare thing?

What "label" did you find"?
Production would have started in August of 68 for the 69 model year. By November of 68 things were in full swing filling orders.

Just went through my collection of 68 "Z" SPIDs and they are all a lower number than yours.

Be interesting to see what he is talking about if it a blue certification lable it has the VIN on it as well. But still a Novemeber 68 build date is a 69. A 69 VIN would confirm a door replacement that seems to be in line with the rest of the truck. Get a picture even a phone could take that OK.
Why do you keep grasping on "rare"?
Even if this was a production prototype truck for the 69 facelift it would not have a late 68 production VIN number, much less a cert. plate.

This is my first restore and someone else had used the term "Rare" with me before. I am having two sides tell me different things so I'm just trying to do homework. Beside that, I'm just really interested and invested and value opinions of those like yourself. Thanks, Tim.
