the really cool thing about this truck is it is missing only 3 parts. 3rd door door panel, ambulance passenger door catch bar, and outside trim pieces. none of my projects have ever been this complete. lol. seems like I always spend months to years looking for parts on other projects. best thing is this was only $1500.00 for a running and driving k20 burb.

How are you planing to marry the 4L85E to the NP205? I ask because I just bought a LQ4/4L80E and am considering swapping out the 496 and TH400 in mine.
I like the 550hp, hate the 6 mpg (on a good day).

the 4l80e/4l85e trans is essentially a turbo 400 with overdrive. the 4l80/85e rear cone bolt pattern is the same as a turbo 400, so the th400/np205 adapter works with little effort/modification. next the th400 output shaft is 32 spline and so is the 4l80/85e's. you will need to do your homework tho on which 4l80/85e tailshaft works best for you. I am using a 2wd 4l80/85e as it has the longest output shaft of the group by .500 if you look around on the net there is some info on this conversion, but if you read it most are hearsays. very few have actually tried or done the conversion. the last thing is you will need to run a lsx type motor to control the trans or get a separate trans controller. good luck and have fun.

took the burb out on a shakedown run today. around 20 miles. ran and drove, stopped all fine. no overheating, but did have a small coolant leak when I got back. I have a new griffin aluminum radiator already so I will go ahead and install that. one of my front tires rubbed just a bit on cornering, have 4" lift kit already so I will go ahead and install that. but truck was uneventful, which is good. all in all it was a good run. this is not my daily driver so no big deal. eventually I want it to be tho.

Great looking project so far. I'd love to get my hands on a '67-'72 Sub or K5 but all the ones I'm finding are badly rusted or apparently made of gold judging by how much the sellers are asking lol. I'm looking forward to seeing how this project turns out

i agree with you, they were either gold plated or so rusty they were not worth messing with. I lucked into this truck. minimal rust, was only missing 3 parts that I had to hunt down, and I got it for $1500.00. happy hunting and most of all have fun.

post script; of the 3 parts I had to hunt down, I now have 2 of them. the third I will just make one. lol.

doing some repair work on the burb today to clean up years and years of sins from others. steering shaft was barely attached, pulled it out, building a new one for it.

the left one is the one that came out of 71 burb. the one on the right is a stock one from a 71 donor truck. notice the one from the burb cobbled together out of 2 or 3 shafts.
