Dont be a hack

I was under my truck today looking at something and notice this. Only had the truck a couple of months and havent bothered to look at the springs as I have been busy fixing other hacktastic wonnabe McGyver BS. Iam going to asume this is a heat treatment drop. Just one more thing to fix which is fine but........If you cant do it right DONT DO IT at all. Dont be a dam hack LoL

This thread should be referred to when people ask about cutting or heating coils. Very Unsafe!

Nothing wrong with cutting coils when done correctly. However I agree with heating coils, very unsafe and not worth the risk to you and others.

Re: Dont be a hack

Back in the early 90's I bought a '78 SWB that had been "professionally lowered" by a shop in ATL.

Looked like somebody cut the springs a turn or two, then torched them to "fine tune" (LOL) the drop. Then they stacked about 1" of alignment shims behind the upper control arms. With real long grade 5 hardware store bolts that had been painted black.

Re: Dont be a hack

this is what i found when i llooked under my front end. i love how they put the twist in spacer because they heated the driverside to much. it had 3 in it when i first started working on it. i left this one for a pic or two.

Butch that is terrible. how can those things ride well with no travel. If mine didn't have the spring it does i'd tear my frame to shreds.

the short answer is i dont know how it would ride and i aint finding out. i have new springs for the front end and 2inch drop spindels. i will use the cut off tool to refign the front drop. the front end sat way low on this truck and looking at the springs i know why. there are none they heated the whole thing and colapsed the whole spring and put those twist serts in to try ans fix there bobo.

i may do things slow but i do them to the best of my ability and knowledge.
