Chevrolet Tractors?

We had an 8N at the resort we owned in Central Oregon but it was a work horse and not very pretty!! We also had a Farmall for a while, but my favorite was the "Poppin' Johnny" we had in Montana as a kid I drove that thing all over the property!!! It was fun!!!

Not AG but GM owned Terex, bought Euclid, and many a strong running heavy tractor ran a Detroit Diesel. And here is a Chevy Truktor by Coelman-American (last)

Ive have a couple of Dyna-Ho backhoes they were made by Bucyrus Erie ,but they did all have the 53 series GM detroit desiel engines 353 / 453 /653 depending on the model 140-160-190 and 200, So the engine is GM

I also owned a 1945 Allis Charlmer HD 7 Dozer and that had a 71 series GM detroit in it and again depending on model the 71 series came in 2cyl -271 , 3 cyl 371 /471 and 671 . I have regreted selling that Dozer it was small to med size power house ,and also a nice machine to do final grading

I also have a early ford 1940 9N tractor they are great little work horeses and parts are cheep and avalible from a lot of companys for them ,being they are so popular , I will say this if you have a hard starting 9N ,2N or 8N put a set of AutoLite #216 spark plugs in set your gap to 0.20 and she will fire easly evertime.

When I first started as a Dockbuilder, my outfit owned a dynahoe 200-4 with a 471 DD, what a blast to operate, you felt like you were 15 feet in the air, I think the tires were as tall as me, 6'2

Yep road work and dock building was there main use cause they where made well enough to handle a heavy Hammer all day long without the machine its self breaking apart.

GM has been into just about all products out there!
You'll find Harrison parts on most anything.Fords,Chrysler even Mercedes.
A-6 (and other-R-4, dA-6,etc.)compressors,radiators,heater cores,etc.
They can be found in tractors,loaders,back-hoes,even forklifts.
Power steering pumps too.
I have a JCB back-hoe and I put a gm alternator on it.Same for my Deutz tractor and my golf cart!Much cheaper than OEM parts!
I won't even mention Checker stuff!

I actually saw a Chevrolet Tractor a few years ago at Charlotte Auto Fair. The sign said it was the only Chevrolet Tractor ever built. I think Ford already had the Tractor market sewed up by the time Chevrolet decided to try. IIRC It had a babbit bearing 6.

My house had a GM Delco hot air furnace circa 1954. I replaced it in 2001. Kept the cast iron door that said GM Delco have it to a friend who does hvac. He gets a kick out of old unusual heating equipment.

Detroit Diesel and John Deere almost joined forces back in the mid eighties to market Diesel engines.The ag economy was in the tank for John Deere and Detroit Diesel wasn't doing so great either.By March of 87 a few ads were printed with the name of the new company,Detroit Deere Corporation.It fell apart shortly after that when someone else beat Deere to it.It would have been interesting to see what might have happened.

Well, you wouldn't be using this one for farm work anyway. It's a protype, as far as I know. If it is, I'm surprised they didn't overdo it as prototypes usually are. This one looks like the first crack at it for the boys in the back rooms before refinement, just an assembled unit that operates. I tell ya, it wouldn't be hard for a guy to replicate in his garage these days. And that's what people were doing in '46, building doodlebugs. I think this thing was Chevy's factory-built answer to those, more than the 8N. They have no similarity. More like similar to an Economy or one of the other various home chore type tractors offered at that time.
