Cool 1962 GmC build

Well i wanted to say hi to everyone on the site. I love it it has lots of good info and linkys. This truck is "supposed to be" a gmc but the "PO" converted all the evidence to chevy but oh well still looks cool. It is also an original 4x4 truck so i have decided to do it some justice. Upgrades will and are '89 Blazer drivetrain a 8" lift (all spring) and some 38" Super Swampers. Also the Blaze has a brand new rebuilt 700r4 trans and a awesome running 350 tbi motor. It will all eventually end up on the truck then im gonna do the body . Im not very good yet but hopefully ill get a lil better with practice. Ill keep you all posted with pics as avail i just snapped some in my garage but they didnt turn out very good ill get some better ones after the rear of the truck is lifted and swapped and i can pull it outside

Nice pic of the truck FULL OF JUNK ! haha

pic of the inside sorta

Old tires (33"bfg's vs new ones 38" Super Swampers

The TBI 350 thats gonna go into the truck

The POS 350 thats in it now

Driver's side

New front end installed With springs , ETC......

Pass side from rear. Notice the height diff of the front and rear !

I tried to take a good front pic but its now too dark now sorry more will come. Sorry for the large pics but photobucket seems to want them that size.

Re: 1962 GmC build

Love the pics (sorry mine are so huge) the first one of yours looks like my buddies old one he just recently sold it for 2500 bucks with a 427 in it LOL He's not that sharpest marble in the bag if you know what i mean. But oh well that truck is what gave me the want to acquire one of these and make it nice again.

As for an update on my progress i got the rear unbolted on the 62 lastnight and all went well till one of the ancient bolts broke that attach the spring to the hanger on the front of the rear springs I spent 4 hours trying to get it out with no success. My sawzall woulda fixed the problem but the batt. was totally dead lastnight so i plugged it in to charge and will try today. Ill keep you all posted on the progress as i can.

Question Re: 1962 GmC build

Well as of this am heres my update. My garage is too dark ofr decent pics but ill keep tryin. 2 nights ago i got the suspension completely removed from both trucks and to my suprise (not really) i discovered i have to move all the hangers from the blazer to the truck. The springs are too fat to fit into the ones on the rear of the truck. And yesterday i went to the 4wd shop and spent a crapload of money on new shocks , bushings and some other stuff (my wife made me buy a grant steering wheel LMAO )

My first question is the leaf hangers on the 62 are bolted on the ones on the blazer are riveted on. Are they supposed to be bolted on the truck ? And if not would they be safe to be bolted onto the frame ? I guess the only other option would be to temp bolt then weld them on ? The weld approach seems to be a better in the long run type fix but there not welded from factory so my guess would be its not necessary.

But let me know what you guys think about it. Thats what im gonna work on today then im ognna work on some much needed wiring probs cause my stuff won't be here till next friday

Re: 1962 GmC build

Hello 1962GmC4x4,

Welcome to the forums from Arizona. You will have no problem bolting your spring hangers on as long as you use grade 8 bolts. Have you been over to the 4x4 forum and checked out my thread "Lets See How Many 60-66 4x4's Are Out There." Come on over and take a look and post your truck when you get some good pics.

Re: 1962 GmC build

Your spring width sounds correct if its strange. I have leafs on my 2wd and they will not interchange with the newer springs. Looks like a good project.
