I am not sure a sway bar will fix that...

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

whats the mud like and how deep? last oct in hollister it was about 2-3feet deep and pretty slick seeing as it was clay. a lot of people got stuck unless they had boggers or when slow.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

Ok change of plans... I got with my buddy from AirFlow Performance and since I needed to by a new crank, He suggested that I build a 486 Stroker! My buddy has the specs and list of internals. I dropped the block off thursday at Fresno Performance to complete a deck, bore, balance, and clearance. I also found some bare large oval port heads, the 681 I believe, for $40. My buddy from Air Flow specializes in Port and Polishing heads. He is going to do a stage 2 port and polish. So thats where I at for now.
Anyone have a 1000cfm Demon carb? I need one.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

Still waiting on my new crank, 4 week shipping, but everything else is ready to be picked up. So, while I am waiting I finished with the body lift, painted the engine bay and put the 39s back on. Take up too much space in the garage, plus I wanted to see what the spacing was with the BL. So here are some pics. I hate the bumper gaps. I will be fixing those later. Also I'm trying to pick a color for the block. I am thinking about a med silver gray. Let me know of any ideas you might have.

Before BL:

After BL and no drivetrain:

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

I really really "liked" your truck because it look until i saw the gaps it still looks great just need to move the bumper mounts or something up. But i think the best idea would be to build a bumper because if you move the stock bumper you have the frame showing. i think you will find something to make the gaps not look asbad.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

I've really busy with work lately, but I did get some time to work on it this week. I was able to clean up the turbo 400 and paint it. I was also able to clean up the engine bay, frame, and wheel wells.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

Sorry for the delay in updates, I've been busy at work and saving up cash to buy parts. So this is where I'm at. I got the block back last week. Fresno Performance decked, bored, honed, line honed, and clearanced the block for the stroker setup. This last weekend I was able to get some paint on it. My first order from Summit Racing came in on Thursday and got a shipment from my buddy today. Another thing is while moving the truck around I broke my rag joint on my steering shaft. I was able to find a nice used one, and broke that one first try. So I call around, did some searching, and found a really great price for a heavy duty steering setup from Borgesen. I ordered a 24" telescoping shaft and two HD U-Joints for just over $200. I also ordered my DIY4X Cross member. I'll be getting that in the next week or so. Currently I have a bare 489ci BBC Stroker Block that is waiting for innereds. I have H Beam Connecting Rods, Keith Black Pistons, Edlebrock Air Gap Intake, MSD HEI Distributor, and Doug Throley Header. I'll be ordering the rest of the internals next week. For now here are the pics of my progress.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

how much is this 489 setting you back if you don't mind? And from my understanding correct me if im wrong but a 489 stroker is a standard 454 blck with different internals.

I'm into in the motor about $2500 so far. The stroke is increased to 4.250 and the block is bored .030 over ia a 489.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

My guess is 600+ HP, 750+ lbs Torque, and the compression is 10.5:1 ( i think). Well have to wait and see what it really puts out after I dyno the truck.

If it is just pulling the pics from a different folder, but same pic names, that should be an easy fix for me - just post up a single pic that is coming from the correct folder and I'll get the other ones working for you.

Re: 71 4x4 BBC Swap: Doing what I should have done the first time!

Update:
Made my last order from Summit today. I believe I have everything ordered, but the internals for the heads. I've spent about a $1200 with them alone and about $1500 through Fresno Performance. I'm tired of spending money. Is that weird to say? Anyway I am about ready to start assembly of the motor. I have been waiting on the cam, which I will be ordering next week. So, I should have lots of progress and pics soon. One other really cool thing. My truck is in the July issue of Peterson's 4wd and Offroad magazine! So check it out!
