Re: tall skinny meaty tires post em up

Not the year you wanted but mine with 6.50 x 16's. Photo is from 1985 right after I did the first conversion to 4wd. Axles are 74 K10. I am of the skinny dig down to solid footing vs. wide floater school of thought. I grew up in Oregon seeing 50's and 60's 4wd logger and hunting trucks and like the look.

Tall skinny tires are hard to find these days. I've tried with no luck. Interco is the only one with a cool tall, skinny tire.

Check out Dirtylarry's truck. I think they are Interco LTB's. I believe you can get them in a 34/10.50/16.

255/85-16 BFG Mud Terrains. I used to run others but it's down to just these. Maybe Maxxis still makes them still. They changed the Buckshot Mudder to another name that I forget. They were around a few years ago. They are the 9.00-16 equivelent. I guess about the same as Q78-16s.

ya the Buckshots were a 305/85R16 which converted to a floatation size of about 36.5 x 12. That was a great tire. It wore like iron and dug.

There's just not a lot of tall skinny radial options for 16 in rims anymore. The 255/85 (33x10) is about the best a guy can find that is above the average stock height sizes. If a guy is looking for anything taller I think Interco is the only company offering a narrow'ish 35 for 16's. 35/10.50R16.

http://www.intercotire.com/tires.php?id=9&g=1

Then there's their Bogger that can be had in a 38.5/11R16 but i think these are starting to get away from the practical side of things.

For snow and ice a prefer a tall narrow tire myself, but im finding that to get what i want I'm going to have to either stay with the 255/85R16 which many companies carry, or jump up to a 17 or 18" rim.

Re: tall skinny meaty tires post em up

I love a 4wd you can hear coming down the road. If they don't sing they won't do a thing
My '72 will be running 12.50/37-16.5s on 8.25 wheels once I get the lift I have laying around up under it. They are a large tall skinny by proportion. Just not so skinny. It seems there's always some other thing or the other taking priority. I gotta keep it handy for back-up. I'll be changing axles, too, and I'm sure the front will need some work.

I really like the 255/85-16 BFG Muds I run on my CUCV. They fit the stock wheel no problem and do not hit anywhere on the truck with no lift. They are listed as 33.3" by BFG.

Re: tall skinny meaty tires post em up

Seems like a tall skinny thread tire thread to pop up every month or so. Will play again.

LT255/85R16 Cooper S/T – about 33” tall x 10” wide. This truck is for sale BTW!

Q78 x 16 - 35.5 x 11 or so.

I have always like that look. People around here think I'm crazy for liking that. If I get a 4x4 it will have tall skinny tires.
