I was thinking about the 6 leafs on my truck a little more so I went out and counted 6 on my 3/4 ton with heavy rear suspension. Due to that, I was less sure they were original. I emailed the previous owner today and he said that heavier springs were installed so that makes sense. I wonder what the lwb originally had, 4?

Clint, Here is what the mount looks like on my truck. It may have been modified when the power steering pump was added. I am pretty sure the ram assist power steering was not factory but added back in the day since the bracket to mount the pump is welded construction. Are there any other V6 4x4 GMC owners on the board? It'd be nice to see more of these engine mounts. What is up with the "cage" around your upper radio hose (the part right in front of drivers valve cover)?

Thanks for the pics Jud. I don't know if the lwb would have had different springs.

Now for the mounts. The mounts are different. That is why my motor is higher on one side. Mine has had the tabs broke off on it. You can see where it was welded in the pix. The only reason I can think it would have a taller mount is to clear the ac compressor pulley on the crank. That pulley is very close to the front crossmember. But that is just a guess. I will take more pics.

I dont know about the other bracket either. If you notice Jud my exhaust manifolds have holes that are plugged for a smog pump. That bracket may have been for that? But I am just guessing again.

Maybe someone can show us a complete power steering bracket for a v6.

Rick my drivers side motor mount had been welded, and Jud thinks his power steering bracket has been welded.

My first impression of that "cage" like bracket is for the AC compressor, since I see in the cab AC vents. There were probably other brackets involved, but looks as though they may have been removed.

Probably a aftermarket style compressor, like a giant York compressor that was popular back in the day.

You can imagine how close that pass side valve cover is to the firewall. It has actually been hitting it.

It takes the same frigidare type compressor. It mounts under the alternator. It still has those brackets on the engine.

Thank you. I think I sent you a message before about the compressor brackets. This truck has all of them except the two pieces that bolt onto the compressor itself. I would love to have a pic of those pieces. I am hoping to match them to something I can find locally.

Amen Brothers, I just dont see how one person with the mojo can decide when & where a thread needs to be put to bed. Take this one for example, a thread discussing a very rare short bed model which was getting plenty of views and comments is now moved and put to rest in the 4wd tech area. I just dont understand it... Mel

Thank you Tim for the time to take and post those pics. The two brackets in the bottom picture that bolt to the compressor are the ones that I am missing. I will save that picture and keep searching for some.


I have another question Tim. I am wondering about the engine mounts on this truck. Would only A/C trucks have that taller mount on the drivers side like the one that is shown in the top pic of post #55. The only problem with this is that the passenger side valve cover is very close to the firewall. But the A/C pulley is also very close to the front crossmember. Do you have any ideas?

My truck has the same A/C and power steering brackets as Tim's. The motor mounts look the same as well. I wonder if the bracket that the upper radiator goes through on your truck is a '64-'66 power steering pump bracket. The earlier V-6 trucks had the power steering pump up on top of the front of the engine. Maybe your truck wasn't built with power steering, and someone added it using pre '67 parts. I have no idea why your motor mounts have been raised. I looked up the motor mounts and brackets in a parts book, and they should be the same as my 4X2. Only V-6's with automatic tarnsmissions had different mounts.

Bob that could be an earlier ps bracket. My truck does not have power steering, it just has that bracket. I will take that off then.

Thanks for the info on the mounts. The only one that is raised is the drivers side. I will take that tall mount out also and see what happens. It just looks like that crank A/C bracket is going to be very close to the front crossmember.
