It looks like my valve cover is about 3/4" from the firewall at the closest point. I'd still like it if Bob or Erl could post a pic of what the original mounts look like. It seems like your crank pulley has three grooves! Mine has 2.

I'm going to update my thread a little now, we'll see if it gets moved.

Sounds good Jud. That third pulley is for the A/C. That is the one that is very close to that crossmember.

I took that cowl piece off to clean all of the leaves out and get those drains open. It was loaded with leaves and trash.

That sounds good Bob.

I think I have found what the problem is. Someone has put shims under all rear mounts for some reason. That caused the A/C pulley to rub that front crossmember. Then someone welded those tabs on the drivers side motor mount to raise the front of the engine. I am going to start over by finding the right mount and taking out all of those shims and see what happens.

I drove the truck today, and I cannot get the front drive shaft to stop turning. I have the truck in 2wd and the hubs unlocked but it still turns. It is not the front axle because I jacked up the truck and they are unlocked. The problem is with the transfercase. Any ideas?

thanks for the pics tail gate isnt bad at all you should see if you could wet sand the blue off of the roof and get some trim on there!

Thanks Erl, love your truck by the way! Are the rubber mounts original? Could you get a closeup photo of them and measure the thickness?

Also, your PS pump bracket is welded like mine, is that one that you had custom made? I assume the original PS brackets were not welded. I don't think the ram assist on my truck is factory since the bracket was welded.

Thanks for posting those pics. Yes Erl your work looks great. Everything looks original on your truck. I see now I must find some of those mounts. I would also like to find some original radiator hoses. Mine has those hoses you can use for different applications.

I think I know what the problem is on the 4X4. The original V-6 motor mount used on all trucks with manual transmissions is part #2391949, and it has not been availble for some time. It looks to me like someone substituted a different mount. Here is side and bottome views of my left mount:

I agree the engine is setting too high in the 4X4. Look at the A/C vacuum can on my truck, and see how close it is to the valve cover. It looks like the P.O. had to remove it for clearance. BTW- that bracket that goes around the upper radiator hose is for an AIR (smog) pump. V-6's in 1500's with manual transmissions sometimes came with them.

All '67-'69 GMC V-6's in pickups came with a 2 groove pulley on the crank hub (these engines do not use a harmonic balancer). The first groove closest to the engine is for the alternator and water pump, the second groove is for the power steering pump and water pump, if equipped. There is a second single groove pulley bolted on the front for the A/C compressor. This pulley is smaller in diameter than the 2 groove pulley. Back to the motor mounts, I have been told there is a particular transmission mount that will work as a replacement. I don't have a part number for it, but you might try asking on the '60-'66 GMC V-6 website forum. I believe that is where I heard about it. Hope this helps you guys out. Bob.

Thanks Bob for those pics and info. Your truck looks like it is very nice. It is a great color also. I can see exactly what I need to do.

I knew my truck had a smog pump because the manifolds are drilled for the air tubes.

I can see where the vacuum canister was mounted on the side of the air box.
I will do some searching to see if I can find the right mount to substitute.

The 'tin can' style vacuum canister has a little stamped steel bracket on it. The replacement is a plastic ball shaped canister that has the bracket molded on it. The plastic canister is still available.

Thanks Bob. I think the canister on my truck still has the tabs on it. I can check when it gets warmer.
We got about 5 inches of snow yesterday. Here are a few pics of the 67 and since we are now in the 4x4 forum, Ill post some pics of my other 4x4's in the snow.

I'm not really sure about the lwb trucks but I see that lmc does offer 4 leaf rear springs for the half ton 67-68 and a 5 leaf for the 3/4 ton. I havent ever owned one. Well not yet anyways.
