Question for the metal workers...
im trying to press a dimple in some sheetmetal...ive made a punch and somewhat of a die to try to attempt this...it does a good enough job but really distorts the surrounding flat sheetmetal...that's not surprising.....I punched several practice pieces and tried different methods for flatting out the metal...in the press between 2 pieces of flat plate seems to work best...does anyone have any recommendations that I havnt thought of?...this is just gonna be a one time deal so I'm trying not to spend a bunch of time on it....the 1st pic was just pressed between 2 pieces of tubing....the next 2 were pressed in the die piece....doing this in a hyd press
Trying to somewhat replicate the impression in the front panel of the radio box in the last pic..... After zooming in real close on the factory radio picture, that factory impression is somewhat flatter...not a full radius...I may try making a flatter version punch and die and see what happens...maybe the distortion won't be as bad if the impression isn't so deep.....
