Another way to try if it is daylight is you can try them in a turn signal slot or hibeam slot
I have the same problem all the time and it is a 50/50 shot that they go in right the first time. The current only flows through one way unlike a standard bulb.

Turn them around 180 and if that does not work, turn the socket around 180. I have never had a bad one yet but it is possible.
