Bad engine Knock
well my buddys 91 Mitsu Galant GSX 2.0 16V has a very bad knock to it but we arnt couite sure what it is. we think it might be rod bearing but the knock my self and my buddy have heard (both mechanics) havent been this bad its very very loud but it dose not get louder when the engine is reved.
this happen all of a sudden accelerating out of a turn the engine only has 108740 miles on it allways been serviced very very well taken off car. here a vid of it the head has been machined and had a valve job done to it because the Timing belt was broken when he bought it. this is not the original head. the compression is now 174PSI and was original 137PSI the Belt driven Blancer Shaft has been disconected ( dose not hurt the engine) as these has a tendensi to throw bearings and sies up the engine ran very very well. The thing we noticed also. we put a few gauges in it like oil pressure, Vacum and AMP meter. we hooked everything correct but the oil pressure gauge read like 87 PSI at idle and it is supose to be 21 PSI at idle (800 RPM) we thought it maby just was because it was some crappy gauges as they where cheap. well after the engine started knocking the oil pressure gauge read normal 21 PSI at idle witc is kinda strange right?

That sounds like some messed up injector pulses on the video.

Even though I have no idea what the noise is, I usually isolate weird noises to a particular location by using a 3 foot section of garden hose as a "stethoscope".
Place one end close close to the engine and move it around until the noise you are looking for is the loudest. Works for me every time. Good luck... |
