Went with A1,
Bolted up easy, took my time, replaced all the stuff inside the doors, good price too. Will post pics tomorrow. Windows go up/down smooth.

Glad to hear it. How much of a hassle was it to run the wires?

Re: Who's running power windows?

I just completed an installation of Autoloc bolt in with Hotronics window crank controllers with wing windows in a 71 stepside. DO NOT let anyone talk you into removing the window glass our the wing. The secret of ease of installation is to have a good template to drill the 3 holes that hold the crank handle controller in place. I have a friend that is a retired engineer and he made me up a high quality template that is based on the 2 front studs of the window lift mechanism. First 3 holes, perfect alignment. Also, keep in mind that the crank handle mechanism has to be on an angle with the wires facing forward or the window mechanism gear will hit it in its downward travel. Anything else that I can help you with please let me know.

Re: Who's running power windows?

I went with the A1 Electric kit and would recommend it based on the quality, ease of installation and reasonable price. It is a bit of work but only because you have to take all the glass out of the doors. The unit bolts straight into the factory holes and replaces the entire manual mechanism. Wiring is a bit of work but any kit would be the same. A1 has wiring kits and switches available. I have a custom interior so I went with a double switch mounted in the console and used a set of stainless "hot-rod" style wire looms to run the wires out the front of the door into the cab which turned out quite well.

Re: Who's running power windows?

I just picked up a Brandnew Electric Life set for a whopping $100!
I'm running the electric life kit in my 68 Camaro and the direct bolt up goes in with ease.

Re: Who's running power windows?

Isn't part of the reason of going with power windows being able to roll the passenger window up and down from the driver's seat? How can you do this if you use the crank operated switches without reaching all the way across the seat?

You can have nu relics make you a power window kit for your rear Suburban windows. They will probably need your original window cranks and will make you a kit. I had them make me power windows for my 56 Chevy truck about 10 years ago and I had to send in my old regulators. They rebuilt the arms and installed GM motors in them and are still working today or at least last time I drove the truck.

Re: Who's running power windows?

Here are some pics of the finished product, under 300 to the door, (without cost of new scrapers and inner seals). I bought the caps just for now, we will see if I go into another direction, but its a daily driver. I put the switches in the middle to keep the kids from killing the passenger motor. Great kit.

Re: Who's running power windows?

It is all about the wiring grasshopper.

Actually, you have the option of wiring in a relay to a micro switch, and when pressed, you can control the passenger widow from the driver side switch.

Re: Who's running power windows?

Anybody tried making their own using some square body power window regulators?

I have a spare set of beat up power window doors for a square body and was thinking it might be pretty straight forward to take the parts needed from the donor doors and merge them with some 67-72 regulators.

I am going to try it but need to pick up a spare 67-72 door to work on as I don't want to ruin the ones on my 67 if it doesn't work out for some reason.

Might try to install the power locks too.
