Awesome build thread.
You have your front wheels placed perfect. Did your suspension change your hub offset? Curious on the backspace of your wheel and tire combo and if you have any rub at that ride height.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

do you by chance have any numbers for the trans crossmember? look at cpp and they only have round ones. like the sq/rectangle like you have.
do you have it solid mounted or have a flexible mount between the two?
one last thing could you take some measurements of the crossmember for me if it is not too much of a bother. might just fab one if i can't find the square one.
thanks in advance

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

I haven’t logged onto the site for a while and thought I would say hello to everyone. I have been enjoying my truck and cruising it every chance I get. This site was a huge motivator while I was doing my frame off.

Hi Mark,

I live in the Vegas area and would love to know who's your paint guy, you both did a great job.

Reading your build has given me hope that I may get to drive my truck someday too.

Thanks,

Steve

Great build! I sent a PM today. I also wondered if you could elaborate on your vintage air part numbers for everything and your engine accessory bracket system. I have the stock GEN III truck LM7 engine and am trying to find out if your system will work the same on my truck.

Thanks in advance.

I ordered the standard kit for our trucks from vintage air. When you order the system just ask for LS compressor bracket. If you plan on running your lines like I did just plan on making several trips to your local A/C supplier for fittings because you wont use very much that came with the kit. It’s a pain in the a$$ but well worth it. I get alot of compliment’s on how clean my engine bay and how clean the A/C looks. Good luck

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

Great build! I'm very interested in your AC routing, how did you deal with the inner wall to the cowl? The outer is easy, Panel over the big hole, but you have to go through the inner to get to it. If you just blow it open, then you'open to the air. I'd love to get a detail pic of the inside. I'm preparing to do the same thing and was pondering this very thing over the weekend. Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for taking the time to read my build. There were some ups and downs for sure, but worth it all at the end. For all of you guys doing build from frame off”s or just getting the way you want it don’t give up!

I can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years now when I started my build. I finally installed carpet a couple of months ago and the build is complete lol

WOW! I just read every word. My gosh! You are very skilled as well as patient. I am only in the "mock up" stages right now so this is inspiring. I totaled it in 2007 so It's been a while since this truck has seen the road. I have moved it from house to house under it's own power but haven't driven it in 13 years. I have owned it for 31 years and used to wheel it in the Rubicon when I lived in Cali. Thank you for finishing!

Thank You for the compliments! Sorry for the slow response. We ALL have everyday life challenges, and our trucks sometimes become our lowest priority. That’s awesome to own a truck for that long. That’s why you will finish it and haven’t given up on it.
Good luck and keep on trucking.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

I am thinking about updating my wheel's and tires. Anyone have any recommendations? I am looking to go 20 x 10's rear and 20 x 8.5 up front.

Re: Started my first frame off - 72 SWB LS1, 6-spd manual

what kind of look are you after? Do you want to stick with a 5 spoke, do you like a deep lip or a flush design, chrome, polished aluminum, painted (what color)? Too many choices to just spit one out that you might actually like.

If you're into billet wheels, Billet Specialties and U.S. Mags have some very nice, high quality wheels. Intro Wheels has some that are a little cheaper, but still nice (although some have complained about their polish not being show quality), Raceline is another brand that has many different designs to choose from. There are several others, most will offer powder-coating at an additional charge.

Be careful though, it is definitely true in the wheel world when they say, you get what you pay for.

Updated wheels would bring this truck to the next level. Affordable, I’d look at the billet specialties speedway, polished. Wanna spend a little more, besides intro, also take a look at esajian. Their hole shot wheel would look killer on this truck

Thank You for your input Duane. Your truck looks killer! I really like the billet look with the lip on the rear wheels. I am going to research the top brands you are recommending. The date code on my tires are 9 years old and I'm not able to find my front tire size available anymore.
