01 Tahoe Brake Warning Lights

For the last year, while driving and not even applying the brakes, the red Brake and yellow ABS lights pop on. No loss of brake performance, park brake is not engaged. When I shut the truck off and restart, the lights go out and pop on randomly. Once or twice a day or once a week, no real pattern. I did have the front bearing replaced, but made no difference in the lights popping on.

Any ideas?

Re: 01 Tahoe Brake Warning Lights

The abs module on those is a known problem. I fix them all the time. There are usually 8 pins on the circuit board I resolder after opening the unit. Its not easy to get the case open because its glued shut. Removal of the unit itself can also be tough. The ones under the hood arent bad but most of the full size stuff I do its under the cab on the left frame rail facing up. Most shops want a lot of money to replace the module. I fix them in about two to three hours with nothing but a torx bit, a razor knife and a soldering iron. The pins that crack the solder joints are for the main power plug into the unit. Look it up on youtube its a super common fix.

I would check the ground for the module too. Also a common problem.
