Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

ACA 1800?

I'm finding the rod is too short by inches.

Any solutions?

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

BigDave,
I bought the same kit from Summit, and had the exact same problem. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a threaded coupler and 5/16-24 threaded rod. Measure twice through all the gears and cut once. Problem solved.
Just my solution.
If you can return or exchange your kit, the paperwork with mine says a longer rod is available. I believe 26" vs. the 21" rod. Hope any of this helps.
Roger

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

Now i feel bad for cutting some length off of mine! my setup is a stock auto column and a 4l60e. I did have to bend the rod a bit to clear everything. install took maybe ten minutes.

I also had to bend the rod. Make sure its a hard bend not a sweeping curve of it will act like a spring

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

Well, I've ripped up the packaging. And yes the rod is 21 inches.

My truck is 4x4 with the 4L60 moved forward two inches. The rod is still way too short and I haven't bent it yet. I have factory pieces to model.

I'm trying the Lokar to get better range out of my selector. To get N and OD to match up on the column indicator I barely can (and sometimes don't) catch park.

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

I found I needed the arm on the transmission to be clocked up a lot further than they suggest. Is there any body lift in your truck ? Its not a big deal to get a chunk of drill rod and put some threads on it if needed

Just in case anyone else runs into this. Here's a pic of the factory rod next to the 21" Lokar linkage. I've seen the Lokar mentioned fairly often but it is much too short in my 3/4 ton 4x4 application.

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

+1 on clocking the tranny arm up higher - I did this on my last truck with the LS/4L60 swap, using that Lokar linkage, and not only did it make the linkage long enough, but it also shifted much smoother, and all the gears lined up with the indicator better.

Not sure if you figured this out or not, but LOKAR sells a longer rod that is 24-25" long.

Re: Anyone using Lokar column shift linkage?

I am converting my 3 speed manual transmission to a 700R4 and installing a power steering tilt column. Which length is correct for this modification?
