1950 gmc window s10 build....Thanks to everyone

Well most people who are working on an s10 build have heard from me many times. A little back story my dad drug this truck home when I was 15 ½. At the time I was not to happy this was going to be my first car. In fact, I thought he was playing a joke on me. It took all of ½ a year to get it running back then. When I went off to college the truck stayed just couldn’t perform the 3 hour drive back home on the weekends and there she sat for 16 years. About 2 years ago I sold my 1957 wagon and decided it was time to give the ole girl another go. I could not afford a decent mustang front end and I remembered way back when reading about an s10 swap. Did some searches and ended up on this site. I have emailed everyone and used ideas from just about everyone on this site. I would like to say thank you to everyone that has given me information. It is almost a compilation build from everybody’s threads and swaps. It is at a place where I feel I should post some pics.

I used Jeffs design but made it out of square tubing and a little heigher then his. I used energy suspension universal bushings which fit perfect in the back channel.

Here is a picture with the fender on. I like the clearance so far (could be a little lower) might do a suspension drop later, depending on what the engine weight does.

And this is where I am at now. The front end is all mocked up and I will be taking it back apart to clean and put the engine in. I am going to use a 350/700r4 set up. I still need to work on the steering shaft and prop valve for brakes.

Before I put the engine in. Do most people remove the drive shaft support cross member?

Can't say I know for sure... yet. I'm pulling the 4.3 tbi in mine today/tomorrow and doing the same... dropping in a tbi 350/th700r4. I'll be posting pics on my build and let you know how it goes and what I find...

Cheers!
Ted.

I cut mine out, slid it back, and welded it back in. I moved the 4.3 in mine back 7", but with the extended cab frame it was still longer than I wanted a 1 piece driveshaft to be, so I'm still 2 piece.

Ya, had a two piece with my 4.3 (had to shorten it about 8" since it came out of an extended cab frame) but I'm hoping this nice carbon fibre wrapped aluminum one I have will work for the 350...

Re: 1950 gmc window s10 build....Thanks to everyone

Well its been awhile. Got married, bought a house, got divorced...haha so back to the 1950.....with a lot less money... Updates: the engine and trans is in working on radiator support now. Which like most have said is a nightmare. I believe the Chevy's make this easier the gmc have a lot of support above the radiator which I would like to keep. I have seen a lot of people have issues with most 19x22 radiators having a bent lower tube. The one from jegs is straight fits pretty well but in order to keep the structure above the radiator I will have to use a remote filler tube that splices into the upper hose... Any thought or suggestions on those. Last pic is of my dads 55 that hasn't seen daylight in 25 years, the goal is for both of them to be road worthy by next year.

Hey man why do you have all that stuff piled on that 55 belaire. That's just down right sacrilegious. I'm very disappointed that you would do that to one of the greatest cars every made. You need to just give it to me.lol

Nice projects man and a belaire is just icing on the cake.

I'm very partial to the trifives I own one.

Front sheet metal is coming together actually pretty nicely. I will have some hood issues but hopefully I can solve them. My plan is to get it driveable for a year or two and then totally tear it back down and do the big body work. I would like to buy all the major panels at once. This gives me time to learn how to do body work and paint.

Kawbe here is a pic of my dads 55's engine, he is getting to a point where it will no longer be a dust collector. What wheel/tires are you running on your 55?
