59 shortbed stepside gas tank

Anybody ever put a fuel tank between the frame rails under the bed? What did you use? I've looked at after-market tanks in several catalogs and even gone into the junk yard with a tape measure but, no luck. Any helpful hints out there?

H&H at www.hhclassic.com or 479-787-5575 carries '67-'72 Blazer ABS tank with straps and sender that mounts between your frame rails under your bed. Most Classic truck shops carry these tanks.

Thanks! Good information! I've found several sources for that tank. Do you know if I'll have to cut the rear crossmember out for that tank to fit? In case you were curious the tuck I'm working on is going hot rod. It's got a chevy 350 crate motor that I installed a mild cam shaft and lifters in with an aluminum intake and 600 cfm edelbrock, mallory hei distributor all sitting in a '78 camaro subframe with disc brakes and power steering. Front clip is done and engine compartment is 90% minus wiring. Tried to attach a pic but, the file was too big.

The blazer tank kit is 13" tall x 26"wide x 17" long in our catalog. You need to trim a crossmember and drill some holes for 62 and older trucks. We have installed them in 41-72 trucks with no problems. We sell them with the correct sending unit,straps and 21 gallon tank for under 250.00 shipping included.

summit and jeg's have aluminum or poly fuel cells too. they work great in those trucks. just fyi.

i ut a 56 car tank in the bac ok my 56 truck wich sits on an 81 swb chassis

Thanks guys! Did a lot of research, took a lot of measurements. Settled on a '56 belair tank. It's only 16 gallons but, I don't have to monkey around with the frame and it's costing me only $200 for the tank, sending unit and straps. The filler tube location is also atractive. It'll allow me to run a filler hose between the frame rail and bed out to the driver's side rear fender where I plan to install a fuel door. See you in Daytona!
