Re: SMOG LEGAL ENGINE SWAP TO LS yesterday passed!

Truck, Van or Suburban, it doesn't matter.

Your donor vehicle just needs to be in the same GVWR catagory.

What is the GVWR of your Blazer? That is step one.

Re: SMOG LEGAL ENGINE SWAP TO LS yesterday passed!

steve, thank you for the info & right up.... I am looking to do a very similar situation here in AZ. I am wondering how you went about finding the CA guidlines for emissions pass requirements related to the swap? I know to call the "local" DEQ office, but looking for "terms or phrases" that you might pass along to help speak their jargon ... to explain what what was done...

thanks!

In CA we have a website to start with AskTheRef.com

The CA BAR engine swap guidelines are listed here.

Think about how modern vehicles control the transmission and what gear you are in. A th350 cruising down the highway in 1:1 is going to rev higher than the overdrive computer controlled vehicle that is always attempting to keep you in the highest gear possible, and lowest rpm to not only keep fuel consumption down, but to also lower emmisions by keeping the engine in a certain rpm band for the given speed. Keith S. can probably give us an idea of how much time in development is spent on meeting emmsions targets, or how much it plays into what rolls off the end of the assembly line.

Re: SMOG LEGAL ENGINE SWAP TO LS yesterday passed!

People let’s keep this thread focused on actual information about LS swaps that pass the California engine swap guidelines. My choice of living in California has a lot more factors than how cheap I can have one of my hobbies. Telling us that you don’t live here, and somehow tying that choice to the emission laws of this state, doesn’t add any value.
