'67 FWD broken front Leaf Spring

My yard truck is a '67 four wheel drive. Last winter I broke the front primary leaf on the drivers side right at the front eye. A local check of boneyards did not yield any results, so I welded it. It held up for several storms until it broke again. Since I am a pretty crude stick welder at best I brought it to my neighbor who used to weld for a living. He did not want to weld it, but I bribed him into it, it broke when I pulled it down off of jack. :lol So I jacked it up pulled it apart and welded it again with my stick. I got through the rest of winter last year, I don't want to make spring welding my weekend occupation, so I suppose I have to do it right.

I checked with the local spring shops and I cannot get one locally. If I order one from LMC or some such I have to order all three pieces which will add shipping weight and cost that I do not need. I only need the main leaf.

I am in New England. Anyone know where I can procure just a primary leaf?

Thx

Thx for the replys.
Anyone worked with these folks? Will they make a one-off spring? Or for the money am I just as well off to buy a complete spring from a Vendor.

Re: '67 FWD broken front Leaf Spring

you should never weld a spring// it detempers the heat treated steel and makes it not spring steel anymore

try the yellow pages no need to pay shipping for things commonly available from a local guy

i spent 30seconds googleing found this
http://www.palmerspring.com/what.html

Re: '67 FWD broken front Leaf Spring

If it were anything but a yard truck I certainly would not weld a spring. It has not seen road service in 20 years.

In the yard, and to keep me plowing for the current storm, I will do pretty much anything. As I said it actually lasted for several storms.

I have tried Palmer and Donovan spring and neither of them actually form springs. They purchase spring stock and build up leafs. Apparently my 67 is no longer available as a main leaf. I need to order the complete the leaf set. Just hate to buy more than I need.

I even went through all the board vendors. A couple of them have springs, but only as complete sets, (both sides).

I will give a call to Vintage Chevy Trucks when they open in the morning and see if they have a used one. They list a huge amount of used parts here on the board. If not it is probably off to LMC for a complete spring.

You will probably want to replace the spring on both side otherwise it might lean on way.

Well she always has listed a little to Starboard, maybe she will level out! But seriously, this rig is a yard truck. No body, not much interior, well ventilated. It just needs to be functiomal to move snow and haul wood from the back lot to the splitter then to the woodshed.

With the spring broken I can't turn the whel to the right!

If that's the case, any old spring(s) that are the length and width should work. take the measurements and go to pick n pull and cut a deal with the guys in the yard. If the spring lengths are ok you could re-drill the pin if necessary.
