whats the problem with GMCs???

ive had my ol 72 up for sale locally for about a week now, and have had 3 people look at it and all 3 have told me "if it were a chevy, id be all over it", so could someone pleae tell me why it seem no one like the gmcs, i have had 2 and im not a huge fan of the 4 headlights, but other than that i see no real difference at all, plus i liked the fact that u dont see as many GMCs so if anyone has had this problem, or knows y please chime in, im to the point where in thinking of just trading the doghouse with a local yard here and making it a chevy to try to get a sale.

I agree with you but personal preferance prevails. It seems like they are starting to gain popularity though. I don't think I would change it though. Those same people that said

will say well it's not original so I'll pass. You will find some one that respects you for it. Keep your head up.

There are plenty of people out there who perfer GMC over Chevy. You just have to wait for the right buyer.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

Is it for sale on here? I look at GM, not GMC or Chevy. I used to have a Medium Green, 1971 GMC K-20 auto and it was one of my best trucks of all time. Just takes the right person.

The problem here is people who want to play games with you...even if your truck was a Chevy, they'd think up another excuse to prove that all they are doing is wasting your time. Tire kickers.

I've been a Chevy man for over 3 decades, but until I bought a GMC, I didn't get it. They are the same truck, just better built.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

this is one case where it is OK to change it , putting a chevy grill and tailgate on a GMC will increase the value of the truck every time !! it's just the way it is ,, GMC is in the same game as say a pontiac if you have a 1967 camaro and want to sell it will take two day's and you will get good money if you have a 1967 pontiac firebird it will take longer to sell it for less ,,
put a chevy grill in the truck then you will see ,

I knew I was weird. I like the looks of a gmc front end better then a chevy. When I start looking to buy one I will be looking for a GMC.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

Although I have a Chevy, I love the look of the GMC's. My 68 Chevy fell in my lap, but if I could do it over again I would get a GMC. I"ve been trying to talk my neighbor out of swapping his 68 GMC front for a Chevy. To each his own, I suppose. Like others have said, just wait on it and the right buyer will come along.

Totally untrue.More like the opposite.Go to a major swap meet with a good car coral. If there`s a loaded Sierra Grande Wideside shortbed all cherried-out next to a simular CheyenneSuper there will be drool puddles around the GMC and drips around the Chevy.I`ve seen it over and over.Call Jerry Brown at "The Truck Shop"(the original one)in Crossville,TN and ask his opimion. He sells the cream of the crop.
Take a K/20 Chevy and put it up against a K/2500.There will be more interest in the GMC,I garauntee.
Don`t let people who are ignorant to these trucks dictate your methods. You don`t want your baby in their hands anyway.Stick to your guns and hold the line.GMC trucks are the Pontiacs,Buicks, and Old`s of the GM truck world.
Chevelles,Camaros, and Novas are more seen and known to the masses. But,to find a fine equal to these in the other three badges and you`ve really got something.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

For years chevys and gmcs have been built on the same assembly line.
They are essentially the same truck one is not any better than the other.
It is the same truck with different emblems.
You have to go very far back in time to find distinctly different gmc and chevy trucks.
People that think they are drastically different are just misinformed.

I agree that they were just wasting your time. If they were seriously looking to buy a truck, why would they stop to look at a GMC when they want a Chevy?

^ +1

The difference between a Chevy and a GMC....GMC's are made on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Those guys that said they would by it if it were a Chevy are the same guys that say, "If I had the money I'd buy it", or "If that truck were closer I'd buy it", or "I'll come back in an hour and look at it again"

just excuses, my man.

I think they're pulling your leg, why did they even come by or stop to look at it if they didn't want a GMC?

I go by Jerry's shop on a weekly basis and have never seen a GMC in there. His trucks are the nicest out there, but I've only seen Chevys there. Just an observation.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

Doesn't the GMC come stock with leaf springs and a chevy with trailing arms and coils? I believe (not sure, but I think I read it on this board at one time) that both could be ordered with either... That would be my only choice for one vs the other. I dig the trailing arms on the chevys, not sure why, but I do.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

I like both Chevys and GMCs but if I had my choice I would rather have a GMC, but that is just because I like the looks of the grills.

I bought a blue 1972 3/4 ton GMC no frills truck with a 350 and compound 4 speed back in 1975 and drove it 17 years. I really enjoyed driving it. I found that the rear leaf spring setup seemed to give better rear end stability than the coil spring set-up of the Chevys.

My son got me back into the old trucks last year, he has been driving them for years. I told him I would like to have one so when he found a complete running 1971C-10 with minimal rust for very little money I couldn't pass it up.

I do own a 1992 GMC K-3500 though and have compared it to Chevys and found very little if any differences other than the looks.

Just my .02

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

My dad has always had the CST's and Cheyenne Supers, and the only 2 that I have owned was a 1970 GMC Jimmy and my current 69 GMC lwb, I love em both and I would buy either one, but I must admit I am getting more and more partial to the GMC's probably because they are more rare, it's what I have in my garage, and I love the bold chrome grill and the old school dual headlights. Dont worry you will sell it.

Re: whats the problem with GMCs???

The 67/72 series og GM trucks saw the taliend of any difference between the two marks. But,they`re there. The V6 in GMCs only,2wd suspensions were different, yet the other suspension was an option,GMCs had an all steel frontend on the body,`68 was the last for Chevy. The Dana was the common rear in a 3/4t GMC,The Eaton was common in a Chevy.
So,there were minor differences still and the perception that GMCs were more of a truck carried over even past these trucks. Most municipalities, including Fire Departments continued to run GMCs over Chevys and some still do.
If rarity dictates value then GMCs draw more money. But,the masses want popular,so it balances out. But,then there`s fanatics. There`s plenty out there that wouldn`t want anything but a GMC.
Got pictures of what you`re selling?
