I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Nice work, where did you get the skins or did you make your own? They look like really good quality, thicker gauge.

Re: 55 2nd series

The outside skin came with the truck. The previous owner who was restoring said that he got it from LMC truck and the inside part of the door came from classic industries. They are both the same gauge as the metal that was there before. I bought the truck because most of the body work was done just needs the doors fixed and the bed. and i hate doing body work.

Re: 55 2nd series

Thanks, I did some body work on an 87 suburban and i have learned from the mistakes that I made there. I keep seeing trucks around town and it makes me want to get mine done but it will be a while. I think about different things that I'd like to do to it all the time my wife thinks I'm crazy.

Re: 55 2nd series

I know the feeling with the whole school thing, I have worked full time since the day highschool ended, and gone to college during the nights every semester since... been 6 years and it gets old! but dont give up, my truck has been slowly pieced together over the last 7-8 years and last week I got to drive it up the road and back for the first time! - that being said, I had it for 7 years before I ever drove it... there will be plenty of time in life to work on it. Take care of whats important, and when you need a stress relief, grab a wrench!

Re: 55 2nd series

Yeah I have 3 classes left to take and I will have my my Bachelors. I won't be taking them until November. So as soon as the snow stops I will be work on the truck every chance I get. I was out in the garage today and itching to start working on it. I put up some new lights so i can see what I'm doing now. I'm ready to fire up the welder.

Re: 55 2nd series

Well this weekend I was able to get out and do some clean up in the garage so I can start working. I was looking at the truck and on the drivers side the the hinge pillar is smashed in. I did not notice it until now. It is in about an inch. I have been trying to figure out how to fix it. I don't have a good pic of it atm but you can kind of see in in the picture below. I was thinking about getting a stud welder and trying pull it out. Any thoughts?

Re: 55 2nd series

This video shows the unit. In the box in the lower right corner is the clamshell. When you apply pressure it opens up, good for slipping into tight places. I have used it with an oak block. below you can see the clamshell on the unit on the ground. He does not show it in use but he probably put it against the inside of the bumper with a block back to the frame. You need to make sure the part you are using for the backing is braced or stronger than the part you want to move. I go mine an HF on sale for 50% off during a one day sale a couple of years ago. Once you get one you start looking for stuff to fix!

That is what I thought you were talking about. Looking at the hole it may fit. But I'm not sure how strong the back side is

Re: 55 2nd series

OrrieG, thanks for the advice I was able to push it out and it is looking better. Think I'll still need a stud gun to finish it off but it is much better.

Will do I have not even had a chance to fire it up yet. I plan on fill the holes in the firewall and the gas filler this weekend so I'll know more then. From all the review I have read on it everyone says that it is a step down from a Miller. At half the cost I could not pass it up. If you do buy one get it from the eastwood store on ebay you get it with free shipping.

Those Eastwood welders look like they might be a Lincoln just painted blue. If it is I think you will be happy with it. If it didn't come with an automatic darkening shield you should put that on your "must have" list.

Nice work on the truck. I'm in the midst of door major surgery too so I enjoyed your thread.

I have a auto darkening helmet. I had a 110v welder before but had to upgrade so I could weld in my front end.

Re: 55 2nd series

I got a chance to test out the welder this weekend and today I welded some 1/4 steel and it works great. I think it was worth every cent. I forgot to take some pic of the firewall that I started patching but I'll try and get them up later. I order up my IFS today so i should have some new parts in about two weeks and I can not wait.
