Re: My dads AHRA photos

take in mind we still have all these cars but the wrecked 69 chevelle and the 68 camaro, the kansas twister, 55, and the blue and the green camaros are inside the grarge, still in the same condition they were retired in. The 57 was retired early due to the 302 in it throwing a rod.

Wow, those are some great pics! Love to see old drag photos. What is the story on the two wrecks? Did they happen on the strip and was anyone hurt?

Re: My dads AHRA photos

both were my dads cars. The 68 camaro's tire crinkled while going down the strip, he had a 454 4 speed in there (what the blue camaro had, same motor and tranny) and i believe someing like 4-6 end over ends and 6-12 barrel rolls, and magically it was the weekend after he installed the lakewood roll bar, hence the pictures of him pointing to it. He modified all those cars to have 3pt seat belts for safety reasons.

That 69 chevelle was a month old, bought it brand new 350/350 4 speed bench seat special heavy duty front and rear suspension, and a 12 bolt 4.88 gear, but the assembly plant couldn't put the gear in so the dealership had to after my dad picked the car up, hit head on with a semi one night after drag racing. My dad wasin the back seat of the car sleeping, his buddy was driving and must have fell asleep, head on collision, amazing hes still alive.

Another and the third major wreck was in my moms 69 GTO that we still have, got hit on the front drivers side by a drunk driver, bent the frame,a nd it was the rare non-hideaway headlights model. We bought a 69 lemans to fix the frame but have never got around to it, seems like my dad never gets around to alot of things.

Any other questions about the car just ask, im pretty knowelgeable on them, and what i dont know ill just ask my dad.

I like that '55 210 Delray. It reminds me of my Dads car, now we know of 3 with this paint job.

Re: My dads AHRA photos

The white and black 55 is the only one we own in that color, we also have a black with white roof 55 210, red with white roof 55 210, green i beleive with a white roof 210, and a blue 210 delray, the red green and blue 55s are all original v8 low mileage one owner prior to us 55s, v8 3 speed on the tree, and as rust free as your gonna find survivors, the blue ones been painted though.

That RS car took quite a lick didn't it! I always enjoy seeing old pics like this getting posted. I'm also looking forward to the day you and your pop get around to getting some of those old cars out of those sheds so we can see them better!

Re: My dads AHRA photos

the two wrecked ones are long gone, and yes they are still in the grarge, everything but the 57 is as it was run, the 57s motor threw a rod so he retired it early and never rebuilt it. We also have a 57 150 orignal v8 3 speed california car at the farm, but it was wrecked by my dads ex gf, then he got it fixed up and his body man wrecked it on a rest drive haha.

Wow. Jealous doesn't quite begin to express how I feel right now. Nastalgic family heirlooms that few of us will ever experience to that extent.

WOW, Not only were the picts, cool, but the fact that you still have all of them is near unheard of!! Very cool, very cool. Get with NHRA and see if they would use the cars for a display, lots of history there, or even send a pict into hot rod or Car craft. Don't keep all that history hidden, share!! (just keep your addy hidden!!)
