"OrangeAnimal"

Well I figured I would post up my little project. It's a 82 Chevy SWB. I bought it cheap as seen in this picture. The engine was suffering from to many idiots screwing with it and the result was one cylinder with a burnt valve so I replaced the heads only to end up having the rings give out on 2 other cylinders after only running it for about 15 mins. So I said screw that and bought a longblock and started working on it. So now I have a nice mild built 350. Here she is when I got her.

Then I started on the interior. The dash and door panels were no good neither was the instrument panel. I replaced all those as well. Dakota Digital gauges and black door panels and dash pad. Here is one pic I will add more later.

Next was the suspension. I really couldn't decide what I wanted to do so I just did the static drop for now. 5/7 drop. I removed the homemade shackles from the rear and installed the new shackles and flipkit.I am also installing the C-notch. In the front I removed the cut stock springs and installed drop springs and drop spindles. Here is what it looks like now.

I also put a fuel cell in the bed and replaced just about everything bolted to the engine. I still have a few things left. If you noticed the truck is painted with Orange Rhino liner. Previous owner did that and It looks kinda cool. I don't know if I will leave it that way though. I am going to replace the seats and the carpet. I have also added a decent stereo system to the truck with all speakers in the factory locations except for the Kicker 12 . I will post up more pics when I get them on here.

Wow! Did you say Rhino liner all over it? That 's the first for me for the street. That is dif from most trucks. Cool! Looks like you have a good start and would like to see updates as you do them..

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

The wheels are 17 x 8. Kinda small IMO. The tires are 275/45/17. The total diameter is just under 25 inches. If they were the stock size they would be crammed into the wheel well. I am probably going to sell those wheels so I can get some 20's in there.

Yup the whole truck is Orange Rhino liner. The funny thing is they didn't do the bed. Even worse they charged the previous owner 2300 to do the job! I would not have paid that much to do it.

Thanks for the comments!

Nice truck, looks like a great start.

I have seen people do it to there jeeps but not a 2wd street truck.

2300? Wow! The truck appears to be really pretty straight, you would think you could have gotten some paint sprayed for less money. But I guess it wouldnt be as different, and you would think they would have done the bed while they were at it.

Well I am going to take some more pictures as soon as the weather clears up.

The old paint job was ok. It was faded and had lots of scratches, no dents or dings and it is really straight.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

yep! i almost bought that one myself. and the price was right. a friend told that there was a orang c-10 that i just had to see. but i didn't know it was rhino lined until i went to look at it. any body can in line a bed, but to do an entire truck? good luck on your build. this will be a very unique ride in these parts. looking forward to seeing it at some local shows.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I got the truck for super cheap! I have had to do alot to it. I gave him 2500 for the truck. I have spent another 3 grand on it since then though. Hopefully the sun will come out today so I can get some good pics. I have alittle more to do before I hit a show with it.

Next on the list is to try and get the front bumper to line up alittle closer. Then the seats, carpet and interior trim.

The rhino liner has been on there now for about 2 years. I met the guy that originally had it done. The guy that had it listed for sale didn't do it. Turns out he didn't do much of anything to the truck.

I am going to change out the headers this week. I should be getting them in the mail today. The ones that are on there drag the ground. LOL.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Well I got the stainless steel headers on the truck. They are actually made to fit 88 and thru 90 something models. It was hard to get them in on the driver side. The fit is tight. I actually had to trim the lower lip of the frame rail about 1/4 inch about 4 inches long. Here is some pics of how they look installed.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

I love them too. I think they are the ****. It looks good. I was almost going to go with the chrome but didn't really want to pay the price for chrome. The chrome in my experience never holds up. I would not have replaced the wheels that I had if it weren't for the chrome being busted up around the lug holes.

Thanks Conundrum. I really think it is coming together nicely. I just need to get the inside finished up and maybe next year I wil repaint it. I will need something fresh to take to shows.

Re: "OrangeAnimal"

Thanks 84 400. I wouldn't call it that much of a hot rod. The engine is pretty much stock got some flattop's and a "RV" cam. Headers, Carb, and Intake. Probably about 300HP. It runs out pretty good though.

The wheels are 20x8.5 MB Old School. Anthracite finish. I like then and even though they were cheaper than some wheels people have asked if they were Coys. These run about 80 bux cheaper than the Coys per wheel.

I have plans now to add air conditioning. I can't wait to have good air and heat. I basically want it to have all the modern features and be able to be driven anywhere. It's coming along pretty good. I need to get it done so I can get rid of my insane car payment on my 08 Subaru STi.
