Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I've always preferred the 69/70, mostly the 70 with original inner grill. 67/68 I like the GMCs more than the Chevys. Just didn't care for the GMC grill on the 69-72 years. I know it gets some folks crazy, but I do not care much at all for the 71/72 Chevy grills. They need the center divider.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I like them all, always have. I see them all as the same truck with small variations that can be interchanged. I can find a couple things in each year that makes them stand out to me as better than the others

Paint colors as well as interior colors in '69 place them in their own niche within the group. Also one year-only door panels with a bowtie or GMC embossed top center. Definitely the coolest door panels of the run

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

Love the 72"s because of my dad and have owned two. Great memories flood me every time I just sit in my 72. Reminds me of him and family. Truly miss my dad and mother every day.
He first had a 68 2wd when I was young. My nose was broken on the dash in that truck, was to young to remember and way before car seats. To this day there is evidence of that incident. Grew up with the 72 4wd he purchased new when we moved to be closer to my grandparents. Wish we still had his truck. Some more minor details in my build thread.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

Love the 67 for the small window - and yes, I may be in the minority on this, but I just really prefer the small back windows . . . I also love the slant nose and the grille on the 67. Just my personal preferences although I don't dislike any of the 67-72 trucks .

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I guess I dislike them all, because in my mind I can't have any one year and just leave it alone. The grill and plastic in the cab would have to be removed on a 72, upgrading it to a 70 or earlier front clip and 71 or earlier steel door panels, window and latch cranks. And on a 67-70 the front drum brakes would have to be removed and replaced with 71-72 manual front disc brakes. So my favorite year would be a frankentruck.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

67's I dont care for the small back window and lack of side markers. I do like the wheel openings on the box because the long box and short box share the same opening. I believe this stopped at 67. Really great side trim too.

68's I like them all.

69 and 70 not a fan of the grill.

71 and 72 what's not to like?

GMC overall not a big fan of the nose. So much chrome and trim. Although I believe a member here has a stepper with no nose trim, just the chrome grill and it looks really great.

Of course all of these years and makes can look great. Some folks have the look all figured out.

Same as Chevy, '67 has no surround trim, only the grille itself. '68 is same as Chevy, just the real narrow surround trim where it doesn't cover the fender. The tradition of either painted or chrome grille continued through 67/68 on GMCs. '67 white and '68 silver.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I sure like GMC's front end - might be #1 in my book. I should look for one Speak of GMC, I've had this in my side yard for years. Belongs to my son, but says I can have it for $1200, he actually got it as a gift. 81K and many great parts. Ran, but I need to dump half a gas tank. I'd make a camper of it. Downside is it's a 79, my experience with 78-79 GM passenger vehicles hasn't been great, but the van seems simple.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

Ok I really do like the 67 GMC nose, thanks for the heads up on how those work. So maybe a 67 GMC with big back window and 68 side markers would be one Id really like too.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I've always loved the 67/68 Chevys the most and I never really cared for the GMC front end for similar reasons mentioned above, yet I somehow ended up falling for my current truck when I first saw it. The front end has grown on me very...very slowly. I agree that the 67/68 without the surrounding trim looks best. I tried to think of a way to eliminate it on my 72 but there's just not a good way. The blunt hood needs trim to cover the edge or else it looks unfinished. Ultimately, I decided that refreshed stock paint looks best. I added the black headlight surrounds similar to how they are on the Chevys and I think that really toned down the chrome overkill on the GMC grill. In this configuration, I'd say I like this front end just as much as any other.

That's what I did with my ,72 when I first got it. The chrome was dulled out with rust started. I refreshed the whole grille black accent, too. I think it looks better than factory

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

I like the aerodynamics and look of the slant nose 67-68's.
It is my opinion that each time GM changed the grille it was less expensive to make than the prior year. I.E. less parts and more plastic.
I am not a fan of the small back windows. My favorite would be a Panorama rear window 67 or a 68.
My current truck is a 70 with a 72 Grille. Didn't care for the 68-69 Grille and retrofitting a 67-69 was too costly.
Short wide box of course.
Cheers

I did that? Ok, everybody else, you can start liking GMC grilles now . Ironing out the differences for you was my only intent. I love the no marker light look, definitely cleaner looking and ties back with all the other older cooler vehicles with less Federal influence. But these side markers are also very nice looking and add something nice to the look. I like both! The side marker "lights" add a cool touch to the night prowlin' look. I like the 71/72 lights in the bumper for the same reason. At night cruising the 71/72s look the coolest.

Because my '67 is a mild custom, I'm considering the '68 grille that CG gave me. No markings on the front at all. I have a louvered hood with no emblem on the nose, like a '67 GMC, then use the '68 grille. It's a big window and a Wideside. I have a trick idea for the tailgate, my secret.

Re: What makes you like your year more than the other years?

Back in the mid-70s, I learned to drive (on the road) in my dads 69 GMC 1500 (no frills truck), and most of the neighbors growing up had Chevys and GMCs from that time. Fords had a bad rep for rusting out too fast( Northern Michigan), and I don’t remember a Dodge pickup anywhere.
I’m not sure I could say “That Year” is my favorite, but my 70 C-10 probably takes the cake. I like the Grille center bar with the CHEVROLET on it and just enough Britework to make it look nice. I’ve had her for going on 32 years.and will never sell her.
If anything I’ll get a 2nd (71-72 K-10/20) or even a 3rd (68-72 C/K-30), but my son will get the title to “The Green Monster” when the Almighty calls me home.
It’s kinda a good thing that I don’t have room because I would prolly have 15-29 cars and trucks, if I built everything I dream of.m

You bought a truck that almost matched my first 67-72. Ochre SWB '72. Mine was a Highlander with 402/3spd. In '73 from a Chevy Dealer I paid $2,800

I have a 69 Chevy, but I think the 67-68 models look the best -- from a lower hood to grille to side trim. SWB would be my preference.
