What mirrors was this truck born with?

Recently acquired this 81. Has the dumbo mirrors which are OK but if it had the little square sport mirrors originally I'd replace the dumbos. The dumbos shake alot from the deflecting door skin and the fit doesn't seem that great. Makes me think they may have been added. Could just be corroded mirror support tho if there was such a thing inside the doors?

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

I believ the dumbo's were standard, but won't swear by it. My 81 has small sport style, but they were added to the truck prior to me getting it. My didn't list anything on the spid either. Probably depended on the package the truck had to begin with. This is my first one with the small mirrors, all my prior squarebodies had the dumbo's, which I like because you can see out of them.

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

On my '87 with similar mirrors, there's a brace on the bottom mirror bolt. It simply bolts between the inner and outer surface of the door. If I remember correctly, it needed to be removed when working with the vent window. It's possible that a previous owner removed that, and forgot to reinstall it.

The 91 square burb I parted out had dumbo factory...inside the door there is a reinforcement piece the the mounting bots screw into.....

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

Dumbos were the standard in 81. That being said the arms on those mirrors don’t look right maybe it’s the pic but I don’t recall them being that tall. Might explain the shaking.

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

This literature would indicate to me that the D49 Sport mirror was the base condition.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

Since there is no mirror option shown on your SPID I'd have to say your truck was born with sport mirrors.

There should be a small soap dish reinforcement where the original three screws shoot through the door skin.

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

The invoice for my truck, an '87 Scottsdale, makes no mention of outside rear view mirror (by RPO or by price).

Mine came with the small mirrors.

Re: What mirrors was this truck born with?

If your doors ar original, you could pop the door panels and look for the holes that would have been used for the sport mirrors

Yea I was planning on doing that to confirm. Unknown if original doors tho. Keith's posts seem enough to suggest it had the sport mirrors. Will report back on the holes.
