Re: COE & LCF Pics

Nice ones. I want a 47-55 1st COE before they all get turned into cute Zap Comics pickups. A wrecker or dump would be cool, but a platter would be sweet! Little mini-semi

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that is a front axle off of another truck!

Re: COE & LCF Pics

Can I get a little insight on these trucks?
I’m in the market for a cab over of LCF truck.
The cab overs are pretty obvious. The cab is mounted substantially higher than a standard cab to allow it to sit over the top of most of the engine.

Are the LCF trucks kinda the happy medium of standard and COE’s?
Still a little higher over the frame, but not as much forward?
I guess my main question is there a little more room in a LCF truck vs COE?

Re: COE & LCF Pics

Not really more room because the cab is lower than a COE, so the engine house is into the floor. But I'd say leg room is the same as a Conventional.

I saw this neat '57 GMC 370 LCF for sale at the Carlisle truck show. Too bad it was neglected for so long. I'd still restore it, but the price would need to get a lot lower. That's a 'ho'lotta work. But it is all there. A deluxe cab two tone black with white top is what's so neat about it. Must have been something special from new

More. Back when chrome plating was done right. The grille has pitted some, but it rusted out with the chrome around the hole still good. No peeling either

Re: COE & LCF Pics

Man I love it! That good ole Woodland Green works on every truck. A flatbed would work nice for sure. I'd want something 'real', like what it could have been, whatever you do. Could always do a flatbed and keep an eye out for the right old body. But a flatbed would also be handy compared to most. If it was a short frame a wrecker body would be cool.

I have a rollback ,probably never use wrecker for anything,13 ft flatbed would work nice, cab and chassis for now, Pat

Re: COE & LCF Pics

Yeah, I was just thinking would be a cool looking rig, but useful beat that out every time. A stubby wrecker on short frame is what I pictured. A flatbed would finish it out and be real handy. With that green it would be just right, too

Re: COE & LCF Pics

I keep thinking about your '66 and what I'd do. I didn't say it before because the look could be the same as flatbed. But you mentioned "getting use" out of it, so here I go. While a flatbed is always handy, and you can make sides (low for me) to have wider use, if that was mine I'd do a low sided (like 12") 12' contractor dump. Might even paint it red for a Tonka Toy/old school fleet look. Maybe some grain body style (Omaha Standard) white pinstripes. Black would be a cleaner less busy look, but I guess I'm picturing a combination of grain body and low profile contractor dump. I like how the cab pops up from the bed on these, no matter what way you go. Up there in the "booth" of that stubby sumgun!

Period correct may be a Stake Body with original type wood and fasteners, but I would be going Rollback, lol.

Even though I know you already have a car carrier.

Keep us posted on it.

Re: COE & LCF Pics

The trucks are from a friend of mine and his father. They have a whole fleet. His father still has the 1960 C30 where he worked with when he was young.
The LCF was an American Red Cross vehicle. It had an utility box on it. You couldn't watch through the back window. So why the big back window? I don't know. It has the 292CI engine, power steering, all gauges in the dash accept vacuum, wiper washer, 2 battery's with bigger generator.
We reused the custom floor mat that was in the truck. It is from a thicker ribbed material and still good enough to reuse
We used parts from another truck to make a tractor of it.
