Re: Rarest factory paint combos

Maybe someone smarter than me can build a spreadsheet on which we can collect everyone paint codes. If we get a large enough sample we should be able to conclude the percentages of each colors occurrence for a given years truck production.

Can anyone expand on this concept? Or maybe I'm just nuts?!?! Ha

Where did you get those numbers,... do you have some old production data?

Re: Rarest factory paint combos

I was able to buy a 1965 big window shortbed fleetside from a older gentleman here local who bought it in 71 (when he came home from over seas) and his father in law bought it new in 65. it was original pale yellow/white 2 tone. When I got it it had been painted black inside and out which he said he had done in his basement many years ago I picked it up from a body shop where he took it to replace floors, rockers, fenders. They started disassembly and pushed it in a corner for about 3 years when he sold it to me. This is what it looked like when I got it home...

Re: Rarest factory paint combos

The rarest colors are the RPO colors that aren't on the color lists. The stamped aluminum tag on the LH kickpanel was stamped Special Order in place of the color code. I have one of those tags I will try to get a photo of it and add it on here.

Silver was a 1966 only color. Maybe rare, I personally have only seen your picture, never one in person.

My orange isn't the rarest but it's the only one I've seen two toned like this. It was a factory ordered truck for Chevron oil.

The tag on mine, STD trim and 535D for paint. Kinda rare, A cab chassie two tone? It does have quite a few options. I guess theres no way in telling it was special order or not.

The 1964 one year only "fawn" is a much lighter shade than the darker 1965 one year only "fawn". For 1962 and 1963, there was a desert beige which was actually closer the 1965 "fawn". The "fawn" color is also used to describe the interior color, which is not the same of any exterior "fawn" color.

Re: Rarest factory paint combos

Reviving this old paint thread. Did anyone ever start a spreadsheet or find any production figures for paint colors?

1966 silver two-tone has got to be a rare one... never saw one painted like that? anyone?

Re: Rarest factory paint combos

My 1960 GMC was originally Lunar Yellow. From my experience the rarest of all the available colors is solid black. I've seen a few with a white top, but to the best of my memory I've never seen a solid black 60-66 truck wearing original paint in real life. The black trucks I have seen were repaints from something else.

[QUOTE=Leroy-B1;6492384]I saw a pinkish colored gmc here once I think it was called salmon was the only one I ever saw.

I had a cowl grate with pink on the underside. Looked factory. I polished out a bit of it before we put it on my friends truck.

Re: Rarest factory paint combos

I really don't know which colors are the most rare, and it would be nice if that info was available, so if anyone knows please share. I always thought the seamist jade was a rare color, but I don't know the numbers, and I have just seen a couple of pics in the forum, none in person.
