'72 Jimmy replacement tank

I finally got my replacement gas tank last week. It had the stubby filler neck so I decided to swap necks with my original. We used an air chisel and cut off the the section with the old neck. The old tank had two 3/8 nuts on the studs. They came off easy. We tried to melt the solder with a propane torch and it wasn't working so we moved to oxy/acetylene and the solder melted in under a minute and the neck came off.

My new tank is a Counter Part tank from Taiwan. The nuts on the stud were sort of 8mm and wouldn't budge. We heated them until the studs glowed red and no movement. We wire wheeled off some of the paint and it looks like they brazed the neck on and the nuts to boot. I heated it until I was afraid I'd warp the tank or blow through with the torch. Everyone says take it to a radiator shop to swap but what tools do they use I don't have? How hot can I go without ruining my new tank?

I know it's to late now but they are selling the tanks with the correct neck.

I didn't use heat to get mine off, I used a dremel with a small cut off wheel, just ground the gold color till I saw silver.

Where you get the right one? I still have my rigged up replacement neck and yet to put it in. This could dang well speed up the install

I just replaced my stock tank with new one with the correct filler neck. A few different vendors sell it but the best price I could find was from these guys:

They had an ebay ad I found:

It installed just like the original tank except the locating tabs on the sides of the tank must not be in the correct location. I needed to modify the two brackets that sandwich between the tank flange and the frame rail. I left the middle hole/tab alone since that is what centers the tank in the frame rails and instead had to open up the two outer holes so it would match the spacing of the tabs on the new tank.

I can draw a picture of what I did if it helps anyone.

That eBay tank looks like a winner. Almost looks like the filler neck is pointed in the wrong direction-

Sorry, I didn't get a notice of your post. I bought it from jegs, free shipping and didn't take long to get to the east coast. That being said I'm not sure of the delays with everything going on.
