87 R-series drop oil pan in chassis?

I have developed a significant leak from my rear main. Initial view looks like I can probably drop the pan with the engine in the chassis. Can anyone confirm that a big block oil pan can be removed without pulling the engine?

Thanks

I know a sbc can be done that way, but sometimes you have to jack it up a bit for proper clearance.

Personally I prefer using a engine lift to give me the extra room when possible.
