1970 3/4 with front disk brakes?????

I'm asking because I got the front disk, control arms, and steering linkages from a '70 donor to put onto my '69 that has front drums. When looking for new calipers online, nothing shows for a '70 front disk. Only when I search for '71 is when I find disk parts. The owner of the '70 donor truck said that front disks were optional in '70 but became standard in '71. Is this true?? Thanks.

I believe that is true, front disk was not standard until 71 but others with more knowledge on this will most likely chime in. Do yourself a favor and be sure that your rubber brake lines (form caliper to hard line) is new or take it a step further and get stainless braided. Also be sure that the wheels you intend to run can fit disk brakes.

Re: 1970 3/4 with front disk brakes?????

Rumors fly all the time of 1970 disc brake trucks. Never seen one in my 50+ years on this planet, and I have been around a lot of these trucks. Not saying it isn't a viable thing... but... never seen proof yet.

Re: 1970 3/4 with front disk brakes?????

So it seems like maybe the donor truck might have been swapped to disk earlier on. Is the '71 and '72 disk trucks interchangeable regarding disk brake parts?? If so I'll just order brake parts using '71.

Might have been a really early upgrade from the dealer the year after it was sold.

Re: 1970 3/4 with front disk brakes?????

One other option is to do the complete front crossmember conversion from a 73-78 I believe.

This gives you an updated control arm assembly that is much more long living due to not having the metal to metal control arm shaft assemblies.
