aftermarket heat only
Hey all. I'm a the point where I need to make the decision to smooth my firewall or keep it stock and move on.
I'm looking for ideas for after market heat or mods to my existing heat that will enable me to use my stock heater controls and smooth out the firewall. I have a non AC cab. any suggestions? tia |

unless you are going to build a show truck i would just leave it like it is...stock heater works good...

Not a show truck but a daily driver I can be proud of and show off. I just wanted to clean up the engine bay some. I'm not set on shaving the heater box but if there's a mod or aftermarket heater that is reasonably priced and allow me to do that to clean things up, I'd go for it.

The only heat only option I can think of.would be a bus type heater mounted under the dash with some ducts to defrost.

Heater only with no outside air? Prepare for fogged windows or cold legs from the vent door.

Are there no kits that have remedied the fogging? Do all the high dollar AC/heat units have that drawback?

i have this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vta-506101/overview/ really nice unit. i have to wire it up still, but it will defrost the windows. i shaved the firewall and only have he 2 hoses coming through the firewall. the panel it comes with is plastic so i mad a new one out of alum.

i dont think you could use stock(atleast on mine). if you look in my build you can see i made a plate to go into the stock location for the new switches.

I have one of the Summit ones in my Blazer, It puts out some serious heat and i have it piped into the factory defrost and blows onto the floor as well. I am sure you can leave the factory controls there and just have the stock fan speed switch control the summit heater, the divertor cables will not work though

thanks for the replies guys; really appreciate it. I'm kind of leaning to just keeping the stock heat for now. Can always pull the front clip later and smooth the firewall then when I do have the budget for the full blown AC and heat kit.
