Re: Steering box and cooler installed

Well are you running factory tires sizes, are you driving in heavy Traffic now and then.
This alone will make it better for the PS fluid to last longer make the pump last longer.
Because the temp of a PS system are hot any time you can take out heat out there is + to it.
Since you added the cooler you may want to add a filter for it too.
Nice job

The act of the field being whipped around by the pump, pressurized by the pump, and passing through the box all heat the fluid up. Add in under engine bay which is hot attached to a very warm engine.

It helps the seals last longer, and the pump work more evenly since the fluid won't thin out technically by heating up.

I am not sure when it becomes nesacary, but brand F was quite into them in the 3/4 ton and above rating.

Yes correct the fluid temp was at 230F after driving on the highway no overdrive motor turning 2500 at 75 after cooler installation temp down to 190 F every bit helps same reason I run a trans cooler and a oil cooler with a 180 thermostat oil temp dropped from 240 F to 200F in the summer heat

Re: Steering box and cooler installed

If my memory is correct when you start getting to 225*, and definitely all in by 250*. Seals start becoming hard due to breaking down from excessive heat atleast in transmissions.

So I may need to do the cooler myself in my Willy's. The brand F ttb frame i have it on has a simple one that leaked. I plan to add 35" rubber so it looks to be a wise investment for longevity. Or I can let it leak for brand f rust proofing the under carriage.
