So I was searching for a 73 Up front sway bar to convert my 72 and saw the below link.

Has anyone installed these?

They are a little pricey but I'm thinking of getting them.

I have Addco bars on the front and rear of my Suburban.

They work fine but I had to modify the mounting mostly because of my 2" lift

Looks like Hellwig discontinued theirs. Any idea the part numbers for the Addco kits? Do you have pictures of the install? I have a 3” lift on my k5.

Someone rigged a later sway bar up on my '72 K2500 using a crossmember made from 6" c-channel. I removed it when I lifted it 4". I have used the sway bar spacers on other trucks I've lifted (73-87s), but I chose to remove it on this truck. I see very little, if any, benefit from sway bars on these solid axle leaf spring trucks. They already have a "firm" suspension that handles flat as a table top. I get a kick out of having a sporty car come bearing down on me as I'm hitting and exit, only to leave them way behind around the ramp. I feel they are unnecessary clutter. I guess if it comes with one I keep it and if it doesn't I leave it that way. I have owned an awful lot of GM solid axle 4wds, stock to lifted in various ways. I honestly see no real difference in handling between with or without.

I’ve read a few people saying the same thing. I’ve wondered if it was worth the hassle. I haven’t finished the work yet to get it roadworthy from my LS swap and lift. I may just do some driving to see what I think before dropping the money on this option.

That has been my experience. I see sway bars as very effective for independent suspension. I feel no body roll in the four corner leaf/solid axle trucks. They handle flat as a Ferrari IMO, just higher center of gravity

I found on my 4" lifted 89 Burban that if I was going to do some serious articulation I needed to disconnect the sway bar to keep all four tires on the ground. I eventually just removed it altogether and didn't even notice a difference.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will just hold off on this and see how it drives. I bought new springs from ORD so I’m hoping for a little smoother ride on the street. The truck is a road and show truck for me so it will likely never see the dirt. I just have too much time and money into it. That’s what my other toy is for.

aftermarket lift kit springs on these older solid axle trucks are more firm and tend to not need the sway bar anymore .

so unless you have stock soft or custom soft aftermarket springs i would not bother my self with the sway bar .

i have run my few 73-87 k30's and a k10 with lift kit springs and no bar and 1 even had a snow plow setup that was almost 800-850 lbs extra and no real difference .

I added a front sway bar on the front of my K10 adapted from a square body. I used the riveted factory square body mounts on my 71 from the frame of the donor truck. I flipped them from side to side and they fit amazingly well. The truck has a 2.5 inch lift with 1 inch zero rate "spring".

I feel the truck handles better but agree I wouldn't use them on a truck that is taken off road frequently as they limit articulation.

Are those the special order ORD springs that take weeks to make? How much of a difference did you notice? Worth it? Front and Rear?

When I added my swaybar from a 73 up I just welded in a set of mounts and it fit in and worked fine. My truck has 4 inch lift with very stiff springs and the swaybar made a huge differance if you are pushing it hard through the curves. I don't know how you guys don't see a differance. I do not purposely go off reading anymore but the truck is in 4x4 every time I go up the driveway and when I am working in the yard doing winch work or firewood since I live on a mountain. Articulation is just fine. The only issue I have is when the wheel is cut all the way on a hill with wet clay it will sometimes plow forward instead of turning. Then again the backhoe and tractor do the same thing in those locations. Next time I do the hubs I am sliding a lunch box locker in the front. Just my 2 cents.
