Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

We have a original cluster with a tach needs some work and we don't know if it works or not. How much to check it all out make sure it works and what resister does it need to be installed with heI distributor? The truck we are putting it in didn't have a tach previously. So what do we need to do with the plug? If anything. Will take some pictures of it soon. Please let me know ball park pricing, etc. Thanks. Also don't know how this forum works with messages and such am new to board although been a member for some time. Am learning. Thanks again.

Yes it can be done. It will depend on if you want all OE parts or aftermarket or a combination of both. I have had good luck with the aftermarket tachs. The OE tachs are over 40 + years old and most of them have some issues.

You need both tins, new lens and new circuit board as well as the tach

I also have the ability to test OE tachs.

Let me know what you are looking to accomplish and I should be able to help you out.

Thank you,
Tom

Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

Is an OE tach repairable if you test and it's no good or just best to go with one of our after market tachs?

Here is the common issue with OE tachs. Most of these may have sat in a garage or barn or basement, etc. With that environment comes dirt and dust. Add the fact the gauge is already 40+ yrs old and not many of them work any longer or have intermittent issues. The problem is that once one of those tachs have been repaired, they are bound to have another issue shortly after the first issue and so on and so on. They cost more to keep going than they are worth in my opinion.

I am not sure if it would be worth the effort to put modern day tach guts in an original tin? It would be the best of both worlds and LS compatible would be a bigger bonus

As for aftermarket tachs, I use Counterpart brand. I have sold many in my restorations and have had no issues that I am aware of.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.

HI Tom,
I'm still in need of an OEM tach/vac lens and a good clean tach face. Let me know if you have any for sale.

Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

Currently working on a restoration for a board member. It will get my usual treatment.

In case anyone is interested, I do more than Chevy truck clusters. Contact me if you are interested. Also working on a cluster for a 1954 Pontiac that is getting a 12 volt conversion and a volt gauge instead of the stock amp gauge.

Thank you for looking,
Tom

Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

TTT,

Let me know if anyone needs restoration work done or repair. Remember that I am set up to repair and calibrate speedometers. I can also set your odometer to mileage of choice. I can do a volt gauge conversion as well as add a clock in the small un-used space on the cluster.

Thank you,
Tom

You're still on my radar Tom. I'm a year plus from installing any cluster.

Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

Just returned from the Portland swap meet. I bought a couple of cores there. If any one is interested in building a tach or non tach cluster with or without a volt gauge conversion, let me know and I can provide details.

Take care,
Tom

Re: Reconditioned gauge Clusters F/S

Hi Tom, is it possible to get a reconditioned full gauge set up with tach and maybe also with a clock (not really sure about clock) for a 1967 truck. I would like the silver paint set up like the original , not chrome. I know this is not topic to what you do but, I would like my glove box to match the recondition dash is that's something you might do of course for a additional fee.
NGN
Thanks Nick
