Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

Very sharp Custom Camper 72GMCSGCC, it looks just like it did in '72. Great color combo. Those original black center GMC hubcaps are super rare. Has a nice heavy duty stance that tells the world it can haul some serious weight safely.

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

Thanks factorystock. It's pretty original for the most part, except for the Montgomery Ward A/C (that I plan on removing), and the radio. (I have the original radio though..)

Actualy that plug is the RPO UY1 Camper Wiring Harness, shown here in a picture of mine (to good effect if not clarity) on an Alaskan pop up camper. The full picture is at post #91.

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

so if a cab has this then that means the truck had a camper..... this is the factory wiring? so it can be a good asumption that the cab would belong to a custom camper.... even though you could get the camper wiring without the custom camper package.

Well the only real answer would be probably. But yes it is factory and on the SPID. If the truck had been special ordered then its very likely. A lot truck might not have ever carried a camper it's whole life. Most campers went on new trucks in this time period. But many, if not most, buyers pick something off the lot that is "close enough" to what they wanted and usually there is a helpful salesman right there to close the sale. The Custom Camper is just a nameplate option that had required RPO numbers. These generally reflected the minimum recommended chassis equipment for that truck model and not every possible camper related option. The UY1 Camper Wiring was not required. After all few trucks are seen wtih the U98 Junction Block and even the TP2 Aux Battery is rare. Here are two pages from the '69 data book. Required C30 Custom Camper Nameplate options and Camper Recommendations.

^^^According to post #114 it looks like your SPID has all the options except for the nameplate itself. Nice Longhorn!
