Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

How did you mount the motor to the chev frame? Is there a kit to mount thew motor in there? I am in the process of getting a 69 motorhome (Chevy, of course) So I am pretty sure the Cummins will go in there. It is made in 92 but is a 93 or made in 93 and is a 94, can't remember, how do I make it work?! I have your number, but it seems like there are a few of us here wanting to do this so maybe if you can tell us here we won't be bugging you with the same questions over and over?

Definitley inspired! I too would love to see some pics of the mounts as well. I was thinking about swapping a Duramax into my '71, but it's pretty much cost prohibitive. Any advice for someone else looking to do the same thing?

Dodges come with a weaker Getrag 5 speed, stronger NV4500, or even stronger NV5600
or a 4 speed auto that has the same issues as all work truck autos.
Grumman GM step vans have a 4 cyl version of the same motor, and use a TH400 or SM465.

96-98 3/4 ton Diesel Dodges with a stick shift can get 25+ MPG, and put out

in stock trim, and 300HP/600FtLB is not extreme, so towing is not a problem but you may lunch a stock tranny after awhile.
The cummin's engine was actuly sill a mechanical injection system 89-93,the early cumputers controlled converter lockup, and the intake heater. The engine will still run with just one wire. In 94 Cummins chanjed injection pumps to a p7100, this pump has the ability to produce some serious HP, the injectors are also different and the computer plays a few more rolles with the trans, and emition systems. In 1998 1/2 Cummins went fully electronic, and to 24 valves. With the later engines you install fuel and timing boxes to the computer to rais power levels. I run a 93 that has a stock turbo, 4" exhaust and the pump is turned up. it has way more torque than the big block 402 had and gets 18-20mpg with 37" tires.

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

You can still get some high hp. out of a 93 5.9 cheap.Sorry I haven,t got the pic of the mounts yet the are very easy to fab up real simple.the truck is alot more fun to drive with the stick in it.The N50x15 don,t stop squaling til you get into 5th.I dont have her turned up that much YET My wife don,t know that I have some SLIGHTLY larger injectors and a 3600 rpm gov, spring for for her Grocery Getter all my buddies call the truck GG. Next thing I need to do is replace the insterment panal with new one from Dakota Digitalso I can get the electrical speedo to work and tac.I put some of the sound deadner called Dynamat work real well the man at the sterio shop sead I over killed puting it in i covered every spot made one heck of a differance.you can hear some one talk to you now while your driving.
When it gets warmer I have the 3.08 reaend to put in.It is sleeting and snowing to day .

Can you maybe take pics of everything? The whole truck inside and out, engine bay, underneath? I would love to see more on this swap. Good job!
