is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I was wondering if anyone is still selling the plans for a 67-72 Tip and Flip cab dolly. Looks like the last time Kevin was on the thread for that was back in 2015.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I improvised and made my own out of 14ga 2" square tubing. It doesn't tip from all sides like the tip and flip but it works well and I can tip it by myself. I could shoot you some dimensions.

That would be great if I could get dimensions. Looks like that will do the job I want to do. Thanks!

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

These dimensions might be a work in progress. I already made the drawings more detailed than what I used to build it...

I started out with 2pcs of 14ga 2" square tubing 132 inches long like this:

I cut V shapes out and left the outside wall of the tubing in tact. I then folded at the V cuts and welded.

I then welded to 35 inch long cross pieces to make the main part of the frame.

My casters were 7 1/4" tall so I made some plates to attach to the top of them and welded a 6 inch long piece of 2" square to them. The rear wheels are flush with the back of the main frame. I positioned the front ones by putting a straight edge on the 45° angled part of the frame and pushing the casters up to where they are touching.

For the parts that go up to the cab mounting positions I used 10" long pieces of 2" square tubing. The rear cab mounts are higher so I welded them to the back of the frame where they stick up 8 inches above the frame. The front ones are welded to the side of the frame and stick up 6 1/8"

This should get you close enough to duplicate. Let me know if you have questions.

I think the steel cost about $135 and I already had the casters.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I'd build that backwards or make the uprights movable to the back.
What I'm looking for is better access to the firewall. There are usually a lot of extra holes that need welded.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I think the original tip’n’flip designer is still selling plans. I bought plans last fall from him, despite his absence here.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

No problem and good luck with the project. I will say there are a couple of places where I had to study the directions pretty hard to make it make sense. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you get into it and get stuck, etc.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I was able to get in touch with Kevin from LFD and purchase a set of the Tip and Flip pdf plans. After looking everything over and really liking the simplicity of Jason Banks plan that he shared here on his thread I decided to use a little from both plans and a few ideas that I had together.

One of the goals was to build a cart that can be used for a tip and flip type of cart as well as an cart for bed repair. So the first thing I did was start putting together some plans together in Sketchup. Here are a few items that I wanted included in the plan:

-Use 8" pneumatic casters since I already had them and need to be able to roll items over to side yard which is rock
-Make the tip potion of the cart removable so I can have easy access to firewall and also to plugin to the rear side and tip backwards for access that way
-Be able to make an additional plugin so the cart could hold a long or short bed easily
-Add additional bracing for strength and add tabs to mount diamond mesh to bottom for storage of tools or items needed for cart

I have all the materials to get started this weekend except for the clevis pins.

Looks real nice. I especially like the red line tires. I have to drive through part of Idaho early August, will my cart be ready for me to pick up on the way through?

Your design looks really cool. Im tempted. I have three cabs I need to work on. I wonder if you could mount it on the dolly and take it to the blasters so they could do a really good job getting in all the nooks and crannies?

I always see the cab dolly posts and think of using enhaust tubing bent by the local muffler shop...

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

Franken, when I was researching what to build someone on here did something like that.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...77&postcount=7

Except it looks like they used something thicker than exhaust tubing. I considered doing something like this because I have a bender with a die for 1 1/2" pipe.

I really wish I had done tabs that overhang the top of the tubes for the bolts(like in the design linked). It was a small pain getting the bolts in mine up the tubes and into the holes. I might modify mine.

Landarts, it looks like your plans call for .095 wall tubing which is thicker than the 14ga(.0747) that I used. I guess that works better for your 1.75 sleeve. I would be careful with the placement of your wheels. To make sure it is easy to tip. My wheels at the front are positioned behind where the cab is mounted. I was also working with mine a few times this week and you can see I actually have the parts that are designated at 57 inches long on the plans left longer(taller) and I seem to relay on that extra length when I'm flipping to keep it from slamming on the ground or wheels. So... it might be advisable to keep them longer.

I think the cart would be perfect for that situation. I would add a removable handle like on a kid's wagon so that it would be easy to move around and guide up a trailer ramp. I will be adding this feature because from time to time I like to move a cab or bed to my side yard and it is all crushed stone. It will make it easier for guiding and pulling through the stone surface on the ground. There will be an extra sleeve added on bottom so I can plug in the handle and secure with a clevis pin.

Thanks Jason Banks I will keep that in mind. I was going to leave the ends open so if i need to extend I can just sleeve and weld or clevis pin from the side of the tilt frame. Thanks!

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

Here is where I am at in the build process. A few items tack welded and wheels bolted on. Still need to add the lower braces and tack up the tilt portion. So far it has gone pretty fast, have about two hours into this project which includes all the cutting, deburring, wiping down metal etc. Should be able to wrap it up and put a coat of Hammerite to finish it off.

A few more picts from this weekend. Mock-up with card board to verify cab mount locations and testing the first of tip portion of the cart. Now to finish it up and put it to work.

Re: is Tip and Flip cab dolly available?

I was able to weld up all the tack welds and finish off the cab support sleeves. I used 1.75 tubing with .25 flat stock for the mounts. Will need to drill holes for bolts in each support so that I can remove and slide in different supports to hold fenders, bedsides, hood etc for paint and body work. I figured just make a few more sleeved implements and get total use out of the cart, instead of just for a cab. More of a multi-purpose cart.

Hope to wrap up here in the next evening or so and get some paint on it and lower the K10 cab onto it to test it out. I have 4 diagonal braces for the legs down below to weld on and a diagonal brace that goes across upper platform. Then I need to find so expanded screen out back to make a shelf below to hold a few tools and the other sleeved parts.
