71 cheyenne super

don't post here very often but i've been into these trucks since i was a little kid and rode around the farm in my "pawpaw's" 70 lwb (which i currently own). over the years i've had a couple more, a 69 lwb that looked great on the outside but damn near fell apart in the guys garage that i sold it to, and my favorite so far a 67 swb that i sold to my cousin and have been bugging him to sell me back for years, but he's not having it cause he loves it too.

sooo.. that brings me to the 71. found a new toy yesterday and will be bringing it home sometime very soon. i was told it was a "numbers matching" cheyenne super. 350/3speed i could really care less if it is cause it looks good and will be fun, AND i got it for a decent price so i'm not complaining. comes with extra set of good doors, extra cowl (one on it had a damn spotlight mounted at one time by someone) power steering setup and other misc parts.

for now the plans are to drive it. i might drop it a little and i deffinatley don't like the late model truck ralleys so i'd like to swap the rims out but we'll see what i can find. i've got too many other resto projects lined up for now so it'll be a fun cruiser for a good while. sorry for the crapy cell phone pics, that's all i had when i looked at it yesterday. i'll try to get some better ones soon.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing. there's a faded spot on the passenger fender that looks a little yellow under. i didn't even notice the spot under the emblem when i took that pic. don't know if it was originally yellow or not but i'm cool with yellow. it's stay funky black for a good while though. $2350 sound like a good deal? i'm pleased with it. rides really well, runs smooth and quiet. now i just have to sell my 87 turbo yota sr5 as much as i hate to cause i have no where to keep it.

Re: 71 cheyenne super

ok, i went by and looked at it tonight. pouring down rain so it was hard to tell the original color. but it was deffinately yellow or a pale green (i think yellow) now my question is how do i tell if it was a two tone truck originally without sanding it down, which will happen eventually but i was thinking it was in the vin, but i just decoded the vin number and got pickup and all i got was it was the 646516th one built. nothing about cheyenne nor the paint code.

i am assuming the paint code would be in the glove box? and if it were two tone it would have two paint codes... is there any way to tell if it is in fact a cheyenne super? i wouldn't think anyone would go through the trouble of cloning one but who knows

You'd be surprised. Check the SPID label on the inside of the glovebox door, it will tell you the color and trim package of the truck.

Re: 71 cheyenne super

The spid (glovebox option)sheet) will answer all those questions.

Re: 71 cheyenne super

ok update. i drove the younguns out to get ice cream on sunday, turns out the ice cream place "wrights dairy right" (old fashioned drive up service) was having a cruise in the same day so i ended up staying for a few hours. my truck looked like a turd in a punch bowl next to all the sweet rides, but i don't care. drove it around some that evening, lit the tires up once. runs great. the next morning i go out to tinker and the cab smells like gas. the line connection just outside the sending unit was leaking. the truck needed a new sending unit anyway so i decided to order one, it's on the way.

so while i was ordering things i decided to get a few more, and a few more, and more even. so here's what all i've got on the way

-belltech 3" drop spindles
-belltech 2" front springs
-belltech 4" rear springs
-belltech 2" rear blocks
-belltech nitro drop shocks all around
-new upper and lower ball joints
-chrome air cleaner
-chrome valve covers
-plugs and wires
-mahogany grant steering wheel
-dynomax headers w/ wrap
-autometer ultralite water temp and oil pressure gauges
-hippie foot pedal pads
-2.5" exhaust and x pipe (@ muffler shop when i get the rest done)
-new front brake pads
-new rear shoes and spring kit

that's all i can remember for now, i'll post some pics as soon as the stuff gets done, i'll take some before and after shots as well. oh and we decided on the medium olive (kind of like vw diamond green) and white two tone. white top then green, then white center with green bottom, like the one below

Good Lord, you dropped a bit of change on parts! but you did get the truck for an unheard of price.......

I like the color direction your going, but I'm a bit biased.

A unique cheap restoration for the truck is the little "Disc Brake" label that goes on the upper drivers side of the tailgate---71 only!! Huck
