Did all 1968 Chevy C10 have chrome trim on front fenders & front of hood?

I am just wondering if all 1968 Chevy C10 had the chrome trim on the front fenders near he headlights and the front lip of the hood OR was it only offered on CST optioned trucks?

My 68 is a "plain jane" model but was ordered with the side trim and the trim around the front and on the tail gate so I don't think it was a Custom option only

Mine has no side trim but does have the fender and hood moldings. Pass fender was replaced at one time or another.

Most MY '68s came off the production line with the ''Icing'', [Anodized aluminum molding on leading edges and intake surrounds]. Additionally, the front faces got a contrasting color treatment, White, most often. This distingushes them from the MY '67 trucks which had painted steel intake surrounds that were often a contrasting color, and no leading edge trim. Sometimes the headlamp bezel was painted too.
A lot of restorers omit the Whiteface look. Maybe they never liked it, or they don't want to pay for another color in the repaint process. Who can know?
While it's certainly possible, some far-out GM assembly plants did not get the front molding right off and built early MY '68 trucks without it, I'm more inclined to believe that a restorer didn't trouble to drill out all the little holes required for mounting the Icing. Also it may have been hard to get the trim at some point. Replacement hoods and fenders are not drilled for molding. GM never made the '67-only steel intake surround trim rings with the D-cross section for the aftermarket. Only the MY'68 molding was available and it has a more complex cross section and is only in anodized aluminum.

Here is a picture I put in the vintage pictures thread....

My early 1968 Fremont built truck does not have the trim and has silver paint up front. This is a very low optioned truck. I have another early 1968 that was built in Janesville a month or two after and it has the trim...but it is also a Custom.

Is the entire nose painted silver including the bumper and the grill surround?

I was waiting to see an original truck in this thread to answer the question, I was pretty sure base trim trucks had a silver grill panel and no Aluminum trim, but I couldn’t remember the colors of anything else on the front.

Sure looks like silver bumper, silver grill surround, silver headlight buckets....

I'm pretty sure when this has subject has come up before the consensus is it depends on the factory that built the truck and when during the production year it occurred, whether or not it was white or silver.

After I hit a deer in my '67 K/10 Suburban, I got a grille off a '68 Sub in a junkyard. The '68 Sub was medium metallic blue, but the grille was silver. I kept it like that.
My '68 C/10 Stepside in 516 Orange was a Fremont truck. The engine is dated late June. So the whole truck was not too much later. I register it every October in AZ, but I don't remember when its California anniversary was.
The Stepside was definitly a fleet truck at one point. All Manual -- steering, brakes, tranny. No Radio, no air, no trim. Original buyer specified 292 L6, 7.00x17.5 tires, SM465.
The guy I bought it from called it a "Creamsicle" after the orange sherbet over vanilla ice cream frozen confection on a stick by [R] Popsicle. With the whiteface it was hard to miss his meaning.

Maybe early-on they didn't do the edge trim on everything yet.

The new 68 has them but it's a custom and its a 50th so I would think they would have added the sparkle to it

Some base (Non Custom or CST) 68's had the white face with trim and some had silver face with no trim. We have never really found any rules dictating this enigma with the '68's. it MIGHT have been a mid year change. I've heard some theory that there was a federal mandate about making the front more visible but have never heard any thing definitive.

I wonder how new or original that truck was in that picture. I see it has a later CST side marker lens. Didn't '68 hubcaps have a red ring? EDIT: That was GMCs

I see the hood has been replaced or painted and the RH fender doesn't have the silver accent. I wonder how original it actually is

Funny, that they would put on the lower side chrome trim, but no ''icing'' on the nose pieces.
My Orange '68 Stepside was a fleet truck, no extras like Radio, A/C or Power-anything, but the original buyer did order a 292, a ball-beating ashtray, and WC Jr mirrors. It did have the white nose and aluminum front trim pieces.
I had the build sheet once, and it specified a ''DeLuxe Ashtray'', but not on the SPID.

We don't know that the side trim was added later. My prior comment was pointing to the not so original state of that truck. I'm not sure about the one in the old picture either. It's an old picture, but is it '68 or later, once perhaps it was repainted? It sure looks original, unaltered. I have these brochure pictures that show no trim
