How to clean cloth upholstery (SP?)

I bought a 93 chevy seat from a board member and it is a really nice and comfy seat, but I can't get the danged thing clean. It's the 60/40 split bench and I've used a Hoover steam cleaner but it's not working too well. I think there is something wrong with the attachment part and the water is not hot (even with me filling the tank with hot water). I've cleaned the driverside 3 times and I thought I finally had it "looking clean" but when it dried I still had many "dingy spots." I know it will come clean because many really bad spots have come clean but I already have many hours into the drivers seat and the passenger side is just as dirty and almost twice as big. Would it be worth it to rent a steam cleaner? Maybe y'all can recommend a good cleaning agent? Has anyone had a seat cleaned by someone? About how much did they charge? This is a really nice seat, and I know it will come clean, I just don't think I have the right materials and equipment. Thanks guys.

I've used a 'poor mans carpet cleaner'
Use your shopvac and a spray bottle of cleaning solvent. Wet the area to be cleaned, the follow it up with your shop vac.

Re: How to clean cloth upholstery (SP?)

Sounds like I need to get a shop vac! Anyone rented a steam cleaner or paid someone to do it?

Re: How to clean cloth upholstery (SP?)

My neighbor just did it this summer and it came out real nice for her. I think most of them have small had attachments for doing seats.

Try some of the foamy type shaving cream rub it in and let it sit for awhile then take a clean damp white cotton cloth or towel and wipe it off.

I use a Bissell Green Machine with Bissell cleaner. Walmart has them for about $69 or so I think. Mine is 10 years old. This is the new version:http://www.lnt.com/sm-bissell-little....html#product_

Re: How to clean cloth upholstery (SP?)

Wow, didn't know people had posted on this.... Thanks for the new ideas fellers, but I ended up using a pressure washer with soap and really hot water (my uncle did it, he has a pressure washing business.) You wouldn't believe the dirt that ran off that baby.

Re: How to clean cloth upholstery (SP?)

You may not have known how to clean upholstery before, but at least you could spell it.
