how to get your motor ready for paint
i dont have a presure washer so that out of the question so any opinions will be needed

Simple green will help blast away the grit and grime... other have used oven cleaner but I would only recommend if the motor is out of the truck.

well my plan is to get like 5 different cleaners then use all five one right after the other so i need three more

thanks man i used that stuff today and it was really good i got one side completly ready for paint and almost the other side as well

you can't do one side at a time..IT NEEDS TO BE STUPID CLEAN or your wasting your time and $$$...
I sprayed mine with Castrol Super clean let it set for a bit while you poke away at the bad spot with a putty knife and a wire brush...wear gloves (I work construction so my paws are pretty tough ..but not that tough) I did it 2 or 3 times like that it will get it very clean...then let it dry....the next day wire brush as much as you can then hit it with a can of oven cleaner and let it sit for an hour the acid will remove whats left and rinse with soap and lots of water...let it dry inspect it for anything you missed.....what works well is a quick coat of primer it makes everything show up...attack it again with every othe tool just be sure they are grease free before you go pokeing your clean block... just be sure to give it a good coat of primer if you don't like how it looks then you not going to like it with paint....... I have the news pan painted and ready to put on when I hoist it into the truck...the paint is wrinkle black with silver wheel paint on the covers (chrome Caddy vavle covers are expencive)I also have added yellow accel plug wires.....the pics do not do it justice Last edited by Hottrucks; 06-25-2010 at 09:23 AM. |

thanks well yesterday i thought i would go get some of that simple green and i sprayed and scrubbed picked it clean then today i got some rustoleum chevrolet orange red paint and some grey 500 degree sprated it then got the exhaust manifolds and painted them dark metallic grey and now its done as soon as i buy the front brake lines ill bolt up the tranns and torq con. to the engine and ill start it up for the first time
