One ton booster upgrade

Quick question.. 72 blazer all orig brake brackets.. Went to upgrade to the one ton booster and found that the bolt pattern on the one ton booster was about 1/2" wider than my orig brackets would accept.

After reading many posts about how the booster just bolted right up I figure I have the wrong booster.

I have went over it multiple times, I purchased a booster for a 1972 C30 from Napa, even went back in and got the one for the C20 and the bolt pattern on the back of the booster still 1/2 wider than my bracket will accept.

Anyone had this issue?

According to this write up it says to get a 71-72 K20 or K30 (not C) - not sure the difference but just wanted to point it out.

Re: One ton booster upgrade

I had the same issue. I had to get mounting brackets from a 1972 C20

Re: One ton booster upgrade

One thing I recall on mine was that I had to leave the nuts at the firewall loose to seat the booster in the brackets. Then tightened everything down.

Yup you were correct.. Must be K.. Just got back from the parts store after pulling out multiple doubled diaphram boosters the C's are half inch wider at the bolt patters, yes keeping them loose was a must.. Thank you for the in

Re: One ton booster upgrade

Does this make a big difference on braking?
I'm in general pretty happy with my brakes, i have a stock booster, but i am curious how much of a difference it makes. Or is this necessary for a all 4 wheel disc conversion?

Hydraboost is a lot more expensive. I run it on my rig but only because my cam doesn't pull enough vacuum to run a booster.

To Par's question about how much better this would be over the stock half ton system - the 1 ton master allows you to create more pressure at the calipers. This often creates a stiffer pedal but when combined with the dual diaphragm 1 on booster as well the added brake boost should mitigate that.

I think it likely isn't necessary on a stock rig. But if you'd got larger tires or a hopped up engine adding braking power is a must.
